This might be attributed to the Anderson vote.  Also, the upper midwest (Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota) moved slightly towards the Democrats (basically, Reagan didn't do as well as his landslide) because of the farm crisis.

Keweenaw County, MI voted narrowly Reagan '80, Mondale '84-- in a state that had a strong GOP swing from 1980-84.
