Why are so many people who otherwise are putting nearly all Republicans saying they would have voted for Clinton in 1996?  (Or in some cases, Ross Perot in 1992?)

Perot really had no chance of winning in 1992, regardless of what anybody says.  I mean, I want to reduce the debt and deficit as much as the next conservative, but wouldn't Bush I and Dole still have been better than Clinton?  And as for 1996, Clinton won largely because he moved to the center and enacted tax and spendng cuts under pressure from the Republicans in Congress.
