I am proud to announce that I am running for reelection in January for a 3rd term in the Mideast Assembly!

I am very proud of the many accomplishments that we have made in the current session of the Assembly. They include:

- Passing the first budget in Mideast history. This was done without cutting necessary programs and resulted in a surplus of $1.36 Billion dollars!
- Transgendered is now a protected group!
- Legalization of Online Poker.
- The creation of a Mideast Governor's School.
- Allocation of money to create high-speed bus systems in our larger metro areas.
- A better system to deal with unspent money from regional agencies.
- Urging the Senate to update and organize the wiki page.

We are also very close to passing legislation that will:
- Ease the regions extremely strict abortion statue
- Create a system of special elections if there is a gubernatorial vacancy
- Switch the regions election system to a PR-STV system
- Outlawing plastic bags, requiring bags to be made of 50% recycled material and a 7 cent tax on bags

This session as been extremely fruitful and I hope that I can continue to serve for another 2 months in the assembly to allow for more great change and progress to take place in our region!

I'll be posting my responses to the Mideast Assembly Debate here as well.

Hello fellow candidates and citizens of the Mideast Region! Thank you Senator Franzi for moderating what should be a great debate between many master debaters. ;p

In order to introduce and give a brief history of myself I am going to quote what Periodic Political Polling (PPP) had to say about my candidacy:

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

During my time in the assembly we have provided equal rights to transgendered people, eliminated the overly corporate friendly "right to work" law, switched our election system to PR-STV and helped create high speed busing. Also I helped found the Mideast People's Liberal Labor Caucus as a way for the Left/Center-Left/Center to unite and have a fighting chance in the Mideast which has recently been a region dominated by the Right.

In the fallowing are my general priorities for the upcoming election
- Eliminate the draconian abortion statue that infringes on the rights of all Mideastern women
- Establish a more progressive tax system in the region
- Construct new high speed rail lines in the region
- Establish a regional carbon tax
- Have the Mideast become the Atlasian leader in gun control
- Adjust the harmful "Welfare Responsibility Act"

Opponents of the law: Has the abortion law really been a problem for the Mideast? Are you aware of specific issues it has caused? Considering that most people, even pro-choicers, agree abortion is not a good thing, is it not possible to keep the law the way it is and offer aid to women in need through other means?

There are many issues that our backwards abortion law has presented to our region. Yet the biggest issue is that our deranged abortion law hasn't really stopped abortions, but they have only made them less safe. Abortions are still happening in our region, but they are happening in private and in facilities not suitable for the operation to be done safely. I have heard many stories from the families of women that have died as a result of unsafe abortions. Why must these abortions be done in private?

That is why I helped author a bill that would loosen our draconian abortion law and make it much more acceptable to those who want a more responsible abortion policy. Unfortunately after coming to what we thought was a good compromise with Governor Tmthforu94 on the law, giving him more then enough in concessions, he then reversed his stance on our agreement and vetoed the legislation. Unable to overturn the veto, do to another change in position, we now gathering signatures for an initiative that would allow for the will of the people on the matter to be known once and for all.

Personally I don't think we can help prevent unsafe abortions, which is the aid that women really need, without making our abortion laws better. I would say that there is more that we can do as a region to prevent abortions from occurring. If reelected I will propose a bill that will provide more money to the many family planning centers, especially Planned Parenthood. Also I would propose a bill requiring that all municipality buildings in the region offer free condoms. Allowing for a greater access to contraceptives, we can provide the Mideast population more options in their family planning which could reduce unwanted pregnancies and abortions. This is a smarter way to prevent abortions then to just outlaw it.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

Today, I would like to announce that I will be running for the Mideast Senate Seat in the upcoming  Regional Senate elections! The Senate needs a fresh start and electing me to the body will be jolt it needs to make that change!

During my time in the Mideast Assembly I have worked with members from all parties in order to advance our region forward. This included upgrading the way that teachers are evaluated, making it easier for immigrants to the region to learn English, repealing the "Right To Work" law, prohibiting discrimination towards transgendered citizens, legalizing poker and prohibiting the use of non-resusable bags. Yet at other times it has been necessary to stand on principle and not budge when I have felt it to be absolutely necessary. This was the case with the successful initiative to the Mideast abortion law and the current budget amendment debate. I am very proud of the numerous legislative accomplishments that we were able to make!

Yet when I look to our Federal Government and especially the Senate I do not see this same mix of bipartisanship and standing on principle when necessary in order to get substantial legislation passed. Also the ongoing conflicts between the Legislative and Executive Branches have not been helpful. If elected to the Senate, I will do all in my power provide a fresh start to the Senate!

While I respect the service that Senator Benconstine has provided to the Mideast and Atlasia over the many years, it is time for a new set of new ideas in the Senate for Atlasia. I do look forward to the campaign between him and I and I expect it to be a positive debate on the future of the Senate and Atlasia!

Over the next couple days I will be providing my platform and I will be willing to answer any questions.

Thank you all!

Ah, no offence, Gass, but I'm not sure this is the best idea.
Remember that you're the only voice the workers have in the Mideast Assembly… I really don't want Governor Tmthforu picking your replacement.

Things will work out. Worse case my replacement will only be in there for about a month before the next election.

Which is, of course, a full half-term. With, presumably, a Federalist supermajority.

Ah well, endorsed nonetheless.
