Another potential, though unlikely, candidate not on this list is General David Petraeus.

Petraeus would be an outside the box selection to be sure, but one who would, I believe, intrigue and excite large segments of the electorate.

His leadership capabilities are, I believe, most impressive.

Although he lacks the political experience that would be almost essential in dealing with the day to day goings on in DC, and the political machinations that are a fact of life in the Capitol, I believe, given his military background, his intelligence, and his leadership capabilities, he would quickly master the situation, and his responsibilities as Vice President.

What does anyone else think in this matter?

Thanks.

I think your analysis is probably quite accurate.

Millhouse, very interesting categories, which I agree with for the most part.

Question for you.

Yes, GHWB was a very good pick for Reagan, among other things, bringing DC experience with him.

But do you not think that Reagan was going to secure the south regardless?  He was very well liked in the south on his own merits.

I agree that LBJ definitely brought some southern states in for Kennedy, certainly Texas and the Carolinas, helping him to win the election, in fact, probably the last VP pick who made the difference.

Here's an outside the box pick.

What would the reaction in the country be if Romney were to announce that he has picked Chief Justice John Roberts as the Vice Presidential nominee?

Inherent problems I know, but how does this go over?

Yes, a completely unrealistic and off the wall pick I know, but intriguing.

Rubio is an interesting public figure, no doubt.  But the VP pick?  No.  Romney will pick someone who will be able to step into the Presidency if necessary, and be an able President.  Rubio hardly fits that requirement at this time.

I'm telling you, the pick is going to be Rob Portman.  He has the experience, the capability, and the smarts, and he even looks Vice Presidential, and Presidential for that matter.

I'm still rooting for someone like Meg Whitman: a strong business type. Remember, Romney must continue to emphasize the importance of the economy and someone who has been a successful and visible CEO would help do that.

Two wealthy tycoons on the same ticket?  I don't think so.

I still say Portman.

As a CNN guest commentator said the other day-

Portman is as solid as a rock and as safe as a seat belt.

Putting Bush on the ballot and risking a Senate seat? I don't think so.

Portman was elected to the Senate in 2010.  If Romney/Portman lose Portman continues to be a U.S. Senator.  No Senate seat is at risk.

I still say Mitt should go with Condi.

Talk about a bold choice.
