Because Detroit isn't as big as those cities I listed, and it's not that "liberal" either.

It's more populated than D.C. - almost double its population. The county itself (Wayne) voted 69-29; Detroit itself I think votes about 85-14.

Metro size, stature, prominence, importance etc etc. Detroit doesn't rank up there with DC.

Detroit is the 10th largest city in the country with some of the most important industrial areas in the world. It is also enormously liberal.

Plenty of conservatives live around Detroit. As a matter of fact, it has some of the most Republican suburbs in the country.

You should see the Miami and Chicago suburbs. Wink

But Chicago is a much larger liberal Democratic beast, and Miami is a gay and liberal culture mecca.

I hate to drag this on, but the question was:

" Conservatives, which of these cities would you LEAST like to live in?"

And the "conservative suburbs" don't exist. Sorry, but that's completely untrue. Look at the maps! Not a hint of dark blue - mostly evenly split surrounding the city. There are a few very wealthy Republican towns (Bloomfield Hills), but aside from that, Detroit is a liberal city with moderate suburbs. Trust me... I grew up there Wink

I probably wouldn't have kept responding if you hadn't thrown out that thing about conservative suburbs.

San Fran. Sad, because Silicon Valley might be a good place to work. But it's a Leftist "paradise" - from what I've heard, Republicans/Libertarians/sane people are about as common as Florida Panthers (the animal, not the hockey team), and in as much danger of extinction.

Also, the property costs are if anything even higher than the DC area.

Actually, it really isn't that bad.  I've been there, and I'm from a relatively small town (and I came from a really small town).  It takes a bit to get used to, but you eventually do.

San Fran... Though, the fact that the 49ers are there is the plus side to the city.
