How much danger is Hatch in? The only thing more epic that primarying a 6 term senator who is the most senior member of his party would be to primary two 6 term senators who are the most senior members of their party.

Things are going okay - one thing I will say - there are a lot more Republicans voting than normal; lots of Democrats crossing over to vote in the GOP primary.

Hatch took note of Bob Bennett's defeat two years ago, and he came out swinging, basically steamrolling his opponents and only having to go into a primary because of 32 delegates. He's going to win easily, unless there's a ridiculously lucky upset.

Lugar is standard "reasonable conservative", but with Republican party marching further and further to the right - that's not enough anymore. Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan would lose present day Republican primary as well... The same with Jimmy Carter and. possibly, Bill Clinton in Democratic primary by similar reasons..
