al gore opts not to run.

john kerry wins the nomination and in a surprise names young, moderate georgia governor roy barnes as his running mate.

after a grueling three person primary season, elizabeth dole narrowly captures the nomination over bush and mccain.  she refuses to name either as her running mate and instead names the stately dick lugar from indiana.

Huh?  Dole was much more electable than that idiot that became president otl - cheneys was terrible, can't believe he won a second term too.
