Well, don't forget than Romey home advandage is divised by the number of his home states, which reduces it much.

Perhaps not coincidentally, the Republican candidate then was from Massachusetts, too.

Although the Democrat was even more from Massachusetts (albeit somewhat unpopular).  However, Bush's 88 performance can be mostly chalked up to the fact that Reagan was quite popular here.

Still pretty good. I doubt it will be competitive, but Romney could at least get over 40%.
