I have TX state and congressional results from 1994 as well, but they are so badly done that I can't post them.

A 53-45 win for Bush back then was a huge accomplishment; TX, at the state level, was as Democrat as New York.

Bob Bullock was actually about as conservative as Bush was if not more.  I remember during Ma Richards reign, he made sure to pass a law which said that any income tax (since Texas has no state income tax) had to be approved by the voters as well as the legislature, guaranteeing no income tax would ever come to pass.

After initial clashes, they basically worked to push the Bush gubernatorial agenda through the Texas House and Senate, especially tort reform.

Bob Bullock was the type of Democrat I liked and could elected in Texas easily (I would have always voted for him).  Unfortunately, he died of cancer in 2001, I think.  He supported Bush originally for President in 2000.

Bush got elected because of his last name.

It's clear you don't know much of anything.  Bush was actually helped by the Gingrich Revolution in 1994, otherwise it would have been a close race, but he still would have won.

It wasn't because of his name.  Ann Richards got creamed in the debates for trying to go after him personally much like she had done six years earlier against his father at the Democrat convention.  Bush talked issues and substance and he won.

Richards' strategy was to get him pissed off and make a scene like Howard Dean.

She was holding everything for the debates. I guess that didn't work for her. Poor Ann... (sorry I just love saying that. I can't stand her.)
