Only 20% of Michiganers believe Romney is a Michiganer. This state is ripe for the picking.

I'd buy Romney after this PPP poll came out if I could.

I'm seriously contemplating buying Santorum to win the nomination at this point.

Yeah. If Romney can't win Michigan, that's probably the ball game.

yeah it's nowhere near the ballgame.  it would just mean that we may have to drop the term 'frontrunner' from his name.  he has firewalls in AZ on the 28th and MA/VT/VA on 3/6.

Let him try. The narrative now is Mitt uses the negative attacks and the base is turned off. So for every negative ad, expect ten commentaries about how it's Mitt's only card to play and how it is actually driving his own negatives up.

He can try. But Rick is not Newt. People like Rick. Nuking Newt caused Romney's negatives to skyrocket. He can't afford politically to fire bomb Santorum.

EDIT: What Phil said.

By the way, I didn't really mean it's over. It was said for dramatic purposes and I'm just very excited. I almost got up from dinner and started dancing in the streets of Georgetown.

well, if Romney gets swept out of April 22 (NY and CT) then we can start imagining a bowout.  but all this is very very hypothetical.

Yes, if.  I am still confident Mittens will be the nominee. Part of that is based on my assessment of Rick.  Granted Rick is not Newt, so it is not quite as easy.

I wouldn't be completely shocked if something weird happened in VT but I agree otherwise.

Also, I have a very hard time seeing Santorum compete with Romney in places like New York and California no matter what happens in MI.

No. You were right. The GOP establishment did everything within their power to gift wrap the nomination for Mitt. If he can't win Michigan I think they will turn on him and see that if he couldn't win with all of his advantages that he'll have no shot at taking down Obama.

it's not like they can just flip a switch and jump ship.  they've cast their lot.

If Carl Paladino can win the NY primary I'm sure Rick Santorum can.

Which is funny because Santorum kinda looks like Rick Lazio.

The Republican party, my party, deserves to be disbanded after this embarrassing nominating fiasco.  We have 310,000,000 people in this country and the best we can do is Romney and Newt and Santorum?  Ugh.  Romney is less exciting than a piece of white paper and Santorum lost his last race by 19 points.  God, I hope the doomsayers on the Mayan calendar are right and December 2012 is the end!
