The link the council gives to the by-election result...

http://www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/pdf/Campsie%20and%20Kirkintilloch%20North%20By-Election%20Result.pdf

Yeah, doesn't work for me either.

That's gains of 301 for the SNP vs 295 for Labour over the course of the count, with 577 ballots exhausted.

a Labour dead zone where the Party struggled to poll much better than 10% in good years before the advent of tactical voting in South Shropshire.
Lol.

"Craven Arms" is a town? Sounds like a pub to me.

Pub came first, town later.

Very happy to see the Burnley result.  Bye bye BNP and *sn* NF

just because the vote is fragmenting doesn't mean the problem's gone

I'm sorry but how come there so many by-elections each week ? O_o

In France we only have 2 or 3 cantonales or municipales by-elections per month. Is the UK more willing to cancel election results or do UK elected officials tend to die more ? Smiley

Deaths are the most common. There are resignations and what not but it's the whole growing old (or indeed not so old) which does it

It averages out - I think we get about 5 by-elections a week, every week, but sometimes it's a Hell more and sometimes much less. Rarely, if ever, is there a blank week.

There's over 20,000 councillors here if I'm not mistaken. What are the numbers for France?

Anyway I forgot to thank Sibbs for the info on the Shropshire seat last week. It seems like a repeat of last week: two good (Canterbury, Notts) / two bad (Scarborough, Herefordshire) for Labour.

Can anyone get in the count? Just wondering if I could pop down to the Town Hall for the Ormesby/Brambles Farm result?

Never really in question, anyway. Always satisfying to see derisible Tory results though.

Having a Conservative candidate who's an advocate of an incinerator opposed by 92% of the locals will do things like that. What's interesting is that the boost went to Labour (previously in fourth) rather than to the Lib Dems who were a good second last time and had previously held the seat. A pretty dire set of results for the Lib Dems overall (apart from the dead cat bounce in Middlesbrough).

From the Holy Word I see that there was a large Independent vote in Spellowfields last year, which explains the weird looking vote share changes and makes it difficult to judge who this is actually a good result for.

Camden: Tory vote still holding up quite well in London (or at least its posh bits) relative to the rest of the country?

@Leftbehind: do you know that Middlesbrough ward well?

I've lived less than a mile away of the east of the ward all my life, know that area better (learnt to drive around the industrial estate). Only know the west through passing through it to get into town, didn't have much reason to go there as only had one mate (IIRC the mate in question was actually a 'refugee' from one of the schools there that closed down) from around there - in the terraces on the far West edges - but he wasn't the outdoor type, so didn't really venture out into it.

Pretty uniformly good results there for Labour, and not bad for the Greens either.
