"I've told people that I think Mitt Romney is the 'Denny's' of the Republican field. And here's what I mean by that. Denny's is not the restaurant you jump in the car and say, 'Honey, it's our anniversary. Let's go to 'Denny's.' But 'Denny's' is the place that when everything else is closed, or you just want to go someplace where you know what you're going to get and it's going to be priced in a way that you can afford it ... 'OK, we'll go to Denny's.'"

"Mitt Romney is the guy that, even though he is not very many people's first choice, he is consistent," Huckabee said. "But there's Mitt, sitting down there. You know, like the bean dip. He's always going to be at the end of the table, and always ready. And that's kind of how I see this thing."

That's sort of an endorsement, is it not?

Yes, and that's surprising because Huckabee and Romney weren't exactly best friends in 2007/2008. However, the way Huckabee formulated his endorsement is kind of scathing. It's almost like saying to a girl "I'm going to marry you because while the other girls are crazy you're at least bland".

Comparing Mitt Romney to Denny's and bean dip may actually be an effective tactic in swaying the average Huckabee fan.

Huckabee would have credibility issues with a more ringing endorsement.

Pretty much. It's a shame Huckabee isn't running this time around. He would be leading Obama in the polls right now.
