Ivison says CPC delegates were thinking about a post-Harper future. I'm certainly not, at least not for another 3-4 years.

Another CPC leadership discussion, this time claiming that Baird may be at least somewhat open to a bid. I doubt that, he's never been interested. Plus socially moderate fiscal conservatives, in a field where Moore and Kenney would be gobbling up his supporters from both ends... not very viable IMO. Kenney has a hammerlock on the succession if he runs IMO. I'd probably rank my ballot 1) Kenney 2) Baird 3) Bernier 4) Moore 5) Prentice.

Kenney's easily my #1 choice. The rest are all sort of meh. You're right, Kenney's looking more and more likely. All the red challengers have a fatal flaw. Prentice and Moore are too western, Baird will get crowded out, and Bernier/MacKay have been compromised in their performance of cabinet roles.

Got a Justin Trudeau ad on youtube... the #RealPriorities one. Now if only we could find out what those real priorities are; I didn't here a single bit of policy in the whole minute ad.

Here's one: a carbon tax. Plus legal weed. On another note, I think the PM made a mistake with his PS. Calandra is all spray-n'pray and was quite agitated today.

More Trudeau. I agree with him on cultural protections, but I do find it rather hilarious from a guy who implicitly called over 80% of Canadians "lazy" and talked about abolishing separate school systems in NB.

More Fords: Rob admits to having smoked crack, "probably in a drunken stupor." Wants to see the tape. Also, Doug is openly attacking Chief Blair. AG repeats that evidence will be released at trial, not before.

What's the over/under on the next time Toronto has a conservative mayor? 2053?

Brazeau suspended for 2 years without pay, 50-29-13. Guess the other 2 will be as well.

Duffy also suspended. Wallin vote last. Grits were told to abstain by Trudeau, a lot of Tory senators abstaining.

Don't be so pessimistic. Despite everything, Ford's approvals are still above 40%. Bush would be jealous, and I'll be the first to admit GWB isn't as bad as Ford.

Of course it takes something more than just being a conservative to win in Toronto. John Tory couldn't do it, and he was a moderate, and as fail as he is, he is not a whackjob. However, conservative mayors of Toronto tend to be whackjobs, and very popular. You don't have to look far to find another one in Mel Lastman.  Fewer scandals and Ford would be looking at a no major opposition in 2014.

Toronto tends to be run by conservatives; left-wing control is the exception rather than the rule (alas).

True, and it's only going to be worse in this post-amalgamation world.

BTW, I'm watching MSNBC right now, and they're talking about Ford despite it being election night in the USA.

On the subject of Toronto, I read in the Grauniad today that Paul Reichmann died recently.

Ted Menzies, MP for Macleod, has resigned from the House of Commons.  He had previously stated that he wouldn't be running in 2015.

Already posted that in the by-elections thread. Will be sad to see him go.

Tories and Dippers hold an issues monopoly. Grits not seen as best to handle any major issue. No surprise.

So um, yeah, JT has a new event out that makes Hey Girl look tame. I'm now fully sympathetic to Hash's "biebertrudeau" moniker.

#askjustin is getting deservedly panned by women across the political spectrum as sexist, patronizing BS.

In other news, Mulcair is moving ahead with his plan to recreate the NPDQ. Now that should be fun, given the history of branch planting here. Who'd lead it?
