Lol no, her anti-Anglo pandering is disgusting

Not a fan of it, but I prefer to look to actions, not rhetorics.

And, having lived in Montréal for three years, I understand why it works. Most immigrants are talking English, not French.

Harper may get called as a witness if Duffy goes to trial. Honest question: do we have our own version of executive privilege? Unsurprisingly senators want to limit the investigation's scope to 2010-11 because they know earlier stuff would fall foul of the AG.

Unsurprisingly, McLachlin says the Senate judgment will take a while.

It's normal. Anyways, on Constitutionnal Affairs, I prefer than the court takes its time, given the far-reaching consequences of any decision.

Does Canada not do opinion polling during the summer?

We do, but infrequently. The best pollsters will resume in the fall, if you get any now they'll be from less reputable firms. Plus given recent inaccuracy and that many people are away on vacation or not paying attention... a blessing IMO. Most likely a Grit-Tory tie or MOE race, same thing we saw earlier this summer.

The PM pulled no punches in his Yukon speech, basically a reprise of what he said at the Stampede.

They would be worthless.

And quite irresponsible, at this moment.

Harper confirmed that he will prorogue, Throne Speech will raise the curtain on a new session in October, and he's obviously running in 2015.

Can't wait to see the credible polls resume.  Hoping that the Trudeau bubble will have burst fully.

What do you mean by "burst fully?" Back to third nationally? There is clear evidence that the NDP is clawing back a bit in Quebec, for starters.

If there's one thing the last thirty years of Canadian politics have taught us, it's that there's really, really, really no point in bothering with polls in Canada until an election is actually called.

Yes, or at least 2nd.  But that's good to hear.

Beyond useless polls, Harper will no longer answer questions in English and French. One or the other. No reason given, but his French has been deteriorating even further recently.

Good: Quebec opposition parties will kill or at least force some serious concessions on the PQ's "secularism charter." Hopefully this thing is killed.

Random question for the uninformed and non-french: What exactly does this so-called "secularism charter" actually do, and why?

Ban public servants of wearing any visible religious symbol, in the PQ proposal.

Among other things, outlaw all religious symbols in public institutions, except crosses of a certain size. Politically speaking just a huge squirrel to distract from more pressing issues like the economy. The CAQ will be negotiating with the government since they hold the balance of power, most likely you get a diluted version.

One interesting tidbit: QS notes that despite the ostensible goal of gender equality, a lot of women would be impacted.

New provincial CROP out: PLQ 40, PQ 29, CAQ 20, QS 7. 35-28-24 PQ for the Franco vote, Grits lead everywhere except Quebec City. Yet according to 308 they barely scrape a majority, 63-48-14. Both Marois' and the government's approval ratings are moving up, though still deeply underwater.

Federally, the Grit Shadow Cabinet has been reshuffled.
