The Democrats could easily adopt a pro-life but also pro-legal abortion position; push that while they don't like abortion, making it illegal does more harm (and doesn't lower the abortion rate), while keeping it legal and combining it with anti-poverty and comprehensive sex ed programs in schools is more effective.
My map would have the Republicans do better on the West Coast and the Northeast, while Democrats take most of the South.
