All you Texans are you looking and paying attention?  This is what Texas is gonna look like in 8 to 12 years.

Perry won nearly 40% of Texas Hispanics in 2010 even though he is incredibly incompetent, and Whitman only managed to get 31% in California. I don't think Texas is going to be the next California. Besides, Republicans have heavily invested in making their political bench there as diverse as possible to offset their problems winning California. Have you looked at their state legislature caucus? It's probably the most diverse one in the nation for the GOP.

71% of Asians are voting for Obama. There's the problem for Republicans right there. You don't need to win over working class Hispanics, but there's a problem when you can't even run even with middle class Asians. The Republican debates must be scaring them, since they come from a culture that values moderation.

The GOP sees the demographic time bomb coming. They know their days are numbered. Rather than trying to appeal to minorities, they are going out like Enron. They know their house of cards is falling down, so they are taking all the money on the way out. That is what recent GOP policy is all about..

The Democrats are acting just like the GOP after 2004. Remember how they were never going to lose because all the fastest growing places were going Republican?

Yes but McCain only won about 35% of Texas Hispanics. Unless the Republicans can bump that up and make a solid improvement their goose is cooked.  I'd say in 12 years Hispanics will probably make up upper 20's to almost 30% of the electorate. Coupled with a substantial black population in Texas, unless voting patterns change, which they can BTW, the Republicans will have to win a astronomical percent of the white vote to carry Texas.

Remember how California  was the crux of the Republicans lock on the electoral college, In less than a decade from the mid 80's to  the mid 90's California became virtiually  unattainable  for the Republicans on the national Presidential level.

You are sure going to look ridiculous when that doesn't come to pass.

If the state was trending left then the Dem would probably have a serious shot at the open Senate seat next year, but at this point it looks like the only competition will be in the Republican primary.

But by all means, I'm sure Texas is going to be lean Dem very soon. Democrats have predicted it since the 1980s, without anything actually happening.

Majorly different. All those fast growing GOP places were the same voters we'd had forever who just moved to the exurbs.  And it was offset by expected Democratic gains in urban/inner suburban areas. Hispanics are actually new voters. It makes a huge difference.
