i don't understand why they're doing it. In a state like Georgia that has the same PVI as CA for Rs, the democrats are very moderate because they know that is the only way they can win statewide. In CA on the other hand, the Rs are in denial about the state they live in.

If only this platform was electable there. I'm wondering, what's the best area to moderate in without completely compromising principle.

Most of what the party focuses on is the legislature and trying maintain enough seats to keep Democrats from having 2/3rd's.

The English language section is sheer idiocy.  Hispanics are one of the most socially conservative groups, but crap like "no language but English may be spoken while working" obviously alienates them.

They are in danger of losing that 1/3 + 1 as well. If it doesn't happen in 2012, it will in 2016 (maybe even 2014).

Of course they're really screwed if an initiative to lower the 2/3 requirement to 3/5 or 55% (or ideally back to the normal 50% + 1) passes.

The English language section is sheer idiocy.  Hispanics are one of the most socially conservative groups, but crap like "no language but English may be spoken while working" obviously alienates them.

Or wanting to build more prisons when the prison unions are already bankrupting California. One would think the Republicans would be against that, but locking up people at higher rates gives them a raging hardon.

Or not electing candidates in primaries who are pro-choice, in a state that is something like 70% pro-choice. It doesn't make any sense. They need to become a moderate party, just like the Democrats are in a lot of this country.

The difference is that Dems in GA are moderate. Republicans are California, Torie notwithstanding, are not. Not that official party platform is all that important anyway. The music behing TV ads is infinately more important.
