How old are you, man?  The world is full of desperate 30-ish women who want to reproduce - shouldn't be hard, since after all you're a relatively well off man, right?

I'm 20, so it's not a particularly urgent matter. As for well off, not so much. My family was well off for generations, but my immediate antecedents were cursed with the economic sense of a small tree rodent. I'll be much better off in 5-10 years than I am now.

Just heights. I've tried to get over it, but it just makes me more panicked.

I used to be afraid of heights.  I wish I could give you advice, but I honestly just stopped being afraid of heights one day.

At this point I don't think I have any real phobias.

You do realize it is extremely abnormal for a young man of 20 to be worried about not reproducing, don't you?  And that most young men of 20 are worried about just the opposite - knocking up one of their conquests.

But aside from that, I thought you were the one supposed to be a physicist or something like that.

Heights, fast cars. I'm sort of less bothered by the last one lately and I climb mountains fairly frequently, but it's still there. Also have obvious tendencies towards avoidant personality.

Bees. Wasps. Yellow Jackets. I can't even look at the Wikipedia page. They scare me. They just do... If one gets within five feet of me I have to get away. And if got forbid one lands on me... well...

I know that honeybees are non-threatening, and only retaliate in defense of their hive, but those communist bastards are just plain frightening.

     No, academia.

I am an only child, as are my parents. In my position, to not reproduce would be extremely shameful. No sense in not thinking about it now, then.

Btw, are you of some weird ethnicity or something?  Whoever heard of pressure to reproduce in the 21st century?

Why would you want to be an only child? I'm one, so I'm just curious.

Don't pretend to be simple-minded, Nik.  The bigger inheritance, obviously.  A sibling is the worst thing that can happen to a person.

Mayonaise: If I see it, I leave the table. If I smell it, I vomit. If I taste it (the last time was when I woke up with my brother sticking a giant spoonfull of it into my mouth).

Chalk: It irritates me, I cant touch it without gritting my teeth. Luckily, we have dry/erase boards at my school.

Drowning: I got caught in a rip tide a few years ago, and it took me hours to go back into the water. It was not particulary truamatic, but it still bugs me about what could of happened.

Spider webs: Spiders themselves dont bother me, but the webs do. I cant imagine the terror a fly goes through when caught in one.

I had a feeling you would say that. I guess I'd prefer a sibling just for the exact opposite reason. I like competitiveness.

Large invertebrates give me the willies.  I have issues with heights.  I'm not a fan of confrontation.

Dogs are the big one for me, and always have been. It sucks when I'm visiting relatives with dogs because the dog will often greet me and run after me and I basically run and end up being chased until the dog is called back. I can not stand being around them.

I also have a strange type of anxiety which prevents me from going to social gatherings that attract mostly for lack of a better word "normal" people, like for example a neighborhood association meeting or public speaker or any type of party where getting drunk would be considered rude and unexpected and people might actually dress formally, also why I couldn't ever go to a stuffy mainline Protestant type church even if it was pretty liberal. I'm talking about the bland and mainstream white married people or planning to have kids types. I have no problem with hardcore/indie/emo shows, my type of "hipster" churches, political rallies and campaigns that attractive hardcore activists/political nerd types, and keg parties full of drunk people but anything like the aforementioned events would just make me very anxious. Helps explain my view toward suburbs just a little better. Tongue
