Iraq veteran shot in the head (with either a rubber bullet or gas canister, it's not clear) by the police state thugs in Oakland last night. Anyone who still believes that there is anything "free" about this country is clearly not paying attention.

Wait, your problem with OWS is that so far all of the factions involved have rejected violence?
Yes. Technically nothing the Wall Street bankers did was illegal so they can not go to jail. Protests usually only accomplish a David Rovics song on YouTube that some history majors will view. If the protesters want results the best way to get them could be through direct action. I know the OWS dudes are all pacifists so this will not happen. So the movement will be some guys doing cultural dances and singing "Which side are you on?" That is a fine way to spend a Saturday.

A powerful image, for sure, but I doubt it'll have any effect on the amount of our disposable income.

Uh, no plenty they did that was illegal. Remember Citigroup settling, the mortgage foreclosure robosigning scandal, the FBI warning about an 'epidemic of fraud,' etc.? Holder and co. just refuse to seriously prosecute for obvious reasons.

I doubt most protesters against the Iraq War were stating that they were opposed to military action under any circumstances whatsoever.

I didn't say that they said that. However, plenty of them were opposed to action in Libya on the same grounds. Where were the mass protests?

*shrug* A majority on DU supported Obama's Libya action. Polls also showed it more supported by Democrats. I guess the few protesting were the few opposed.

...and "start other wars like it" was a swipe at pre-emptive military interventionism. Using the logic he used in 2008, he wouldn't have gone into Libya because they posed no direct threat to the U.S. and it would serve as a distraction from the Afghanistan campaign.

Again, no mass protests against this.

Obama didn't start the wars in Libya or Uganda, nor did he bog down the US with ground troops and an occupation. It's not even remotely comparable.

And I like this bit we're using now: "military advisers."

Uh, what other term would you propose?

Obama is not sending combat troops to Uganda. To state anything remotely close to that is simply a flat out lie.

The US has a proud non-interventionist history of sending miltary advisors.

Are you seriously this dense?

How does supporting this action not go against every damn point they made from 2003-2008? Using their logic, what threat was Qadafi to our interests?

There was a coup attempt in Libya before NATO go involved so, yes, the President helped start the military action against Libya.

As you know, I supported this but it flies in the face of what people like yourself said about Iraq.

I never said he was sending ground troops. I just think that sending "military advisors" flies in the face of what you stood for before someone with a (D) next to their name was President.

In its statement on Sunday, the Westland, Mich.-based Nazi party wrote that the Occupy Wall Street protests are “TAYLOR [sic] MADE for National Socialists, as well as WN [White Nationalists] who are serious about DOING SOMETHING.”

“I urgently URGE all of you,” the statement’s unnamed author added, “to TAKE PART and JOIN IN when these protests hit your neck of the woods. Produce some flyers EXPLAINING the ‘JEW BANKER’ influence — DON’T wear anything marking you as an ‘evil racist’ — and GET OUT THERE and SPREAD the WORD!”

I was in Lower Manhattan today but didnt make it down to Zuccotti Park.  I expect many people will clear out because it is just brutal out. The  FDNY/NYPD also seized the generators because of the fire risk yesterday.

need to get enforcement unions into this.  they hate Bloomberg more than I hate myself, can't be too much of a barrier.  make the national guard or Army shoot at people looks way different on the evening news.

I was just in Hell's Kitchen this morning and saw two dudes writing on the sidewalk and blowing a whistle. And they had a gigantic inflatable rat. It was cool, I should have taken a picture. A couple people had stopped and read what he was writing. I was in a hurry to get to Penn Station. Too bad.
