Some news from Brazil:
-PSD (Social Democratic Party) got it register. This is another victory to maverick mayor of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab and his group of dissidents and adhesists. Now, there are more 3 parties willing to get a register to run in 2012 local elections: PPL (Free Fatherland Party, linked to stalinist MR-8, a former guerrilla group that acted as left-wing group in PMDB), PEN (National Ecological Party) and PSPB (Party of Public Servants and Private Sector Workers).
-Governor Eduardo Campos (PSB-PE) got a strong victory last week, as his mother, Ana Arraes was elected to a seat at TCU (Union's Audit Court) that is very powerful because it can control government expenses, meaning that his mother can have a strong power to help his future plans. She was elected with support of Kassab, Sérgio Guerra (PSDB's national chairman that endorsed Campos in last election), Aécio Neves and Lula and defeated former President of Chamber, Aldo Rebelo (PC do B-SP) who had support from ruralists.
-Cleto Falcão, former leader of Collor's government at Chamber, died last Saturday. He was very known by controversial declarations.

Municipal elections
-In Salvador, former Mayor Mário Kértesz can try a comeback after 24 years out of politics. He'll try to get mayoral job again for PMDB. Luiz Bassuma, PV candidate for governorship and pro-life activist joined party too.
-In Curitiba, Gustavo Fruet, a former oppositionist stalwart against government Lula will join PDT, a party aligned with government. He was vetoed for municipal election, where governor Richa (PSDB) prefered to endorse his former running-mate Luciano Ducci (PSB).
-In São Paulo, former senate candidate Ricardo Young (PV) can join PPS to try a seat at City Chamber. Celso Russomano, that is in 1st place in some polls without Marta and Serra, joined PRB (party linked to UCKG) after being sidelined by Paulo Maluf who became ally of Geraldo Alckmin. PSDB primaries will be contested between José Aníbal (veteran politician and ally of Alckmin), Ricardo Tripoli (enviromentalist), Andrea Matarazzo (Serra's stalwart and former Media Secretary of Cardoso's government) and Bruno Covas (grandson of former governor Mario Covas and great favourite to get the nod; he changed his voting register from Santos to São Paulo).

For the last one in Sao Paulo, is that all for a City Council seat? A very qualified field if that's the case- especially if Marta Suplicy and Maluf were considering a run. But maybe that's normal.

Is it true that Kassab has aligned himself with Dilma and the PT? What caused the falling out between him and Serra? And speaking of Serra, what's he up to?

Instead of playing silly politics with catch-all all-corrupt parties, Brazil should remember the international principle of pacta sunt servanda and stop inventing protectionist policies with his associates of the Mercosur.

And then you want to be part of the UNSC and stuff...please.

Sorry. I first talked about City Chamber elections only about Young. Another things are for mayoral job.
Kassab was isolated in DEM, because pro-Aécio elements took control of party. Remember too that Alckmin has a feud with him. He says that he supports Serra for everything, but he leans to be an "independent centrist".
There are some assymetries that Mercosul isn't able to correct, then we can put taxes. In this new law about cars, Mercosur and Mexico cars will have the same treatment.

I don't think than an American is in position to critisism the protectionnism of some countries.

US were blamed a few times by NAFTA and WTO tribunals for violating NAFTA.
They were blamed a few times for complaining and causing trials against other countries in those tribunals for fake reasons, because the other country economy was hurting their own production in some domains.

Sorry, but free trade doesn't work that way.

Yes, because Uruguay is a menace to Brasil's industry. You signed a free market treaty, deal with it.

Former President of Central Bank, Henrique Meirelles, shifted his voter registration from Goiás to São Paulo and went to PSD. He can be endorsed by Kassab for São Paulo's mayoral job.
-Free Fatherland Party, linked to stalinist MR-8, got registration.
