what would the GOP do in their first two years of Perry administration with 60 GOP Senators?

I'd guess:
1) the non-military workforce of the Federal government gets a 25% headcount reduction
2) a new wave of deregulation
3) the end of Obamacare (either through outright repeal or SCOTUS defeat)
4) replacement of SCOTUS Justice Kennedy with a true conservative (and maybe even Scalia and Thomas)
5) drill baby drill

what else?

Oh, it won't take 60 Senate seats to gut Obamacare. With a simple majority they can repeal the insurance subsidies embedded into the tax code by reconciliation. They can even score that as a massive budget savings.

Absent the subsidy, no Democrat is going to vote to require people to buy a product they can't afford, or face punitive fines. Let them try to filibuster a bill to end the punitive fines.

If Perry wins and the GOP gets 60 Senate seats, the country is done for.

That's it.

There's no second chances once that happens.

I was confused for a moment there, then I remembered that outhouse means something slightly different in American.

Put the kabash on the Tea Party and become a responsible governing party again.

Remember the "angry white males" of the 1990's.. the militia groups... Pat Buchanan....  all of that seemed to go away in 2000.

Yeah...what a great 8 years of peace and prosperity we had during that period.

Well 7 years of prosperity.  Smiley

Since it came up on another thread, I'd like to elaborate on the military spending aspect, and why it might be reduced.

1.  There are new priorities.  The candidates are saying "The federal government is too big."  The tea party movement is saying that.  Part of that government is the military.  Not increasing it, or decreasing it, fits with that philosophy.  I really do not recall any R presidential candidate saying "More money for defense."

2.  Obama has shown that bigger is not necessarily better.  Bin Laden was not taken down by a large force; he was in a county where we did not have a combat presence.  Abd al-Rahman was taken out by a drone strike.  Libya is being fought without any troops on the ground, relatively inexpensively.

3.  The R's agreed to the debt ceiling deal that, at least potentially, includes defense cuts, to the point Panetta (D) is complaining about them.

We might be seeing a change in how both parties look at military spending.  We might see this even if Obama is re-elected.

Get rid of Medicare and Social Security. Ramp up military spending by 50%. Cut taxes by 90%. Bankrupt America and then blame the Democrats.

Isn't it obvious? There will be a very simple three-point plan, immediately implemented to transform the US:

1. Cut taxes
2. Raise spending
3. Declare bankruptcy

Let's see

1. Pass a huge social agenda.
2. Restrict unions.
3. Privatize social security and medicare.
4. Give all roads and bridges to private corporations for free, allowing high fees.
5. Repeal all environmental laws.
6. Manipulate election law so that Republicans have an easier time winning elections.

These. Modern day Republicans are crazy.

The beauty of Perry as President, in a way, would be his government seriously damaging the lives of the vast majority of Americans.....and then being able to sell it as a solution to the "big government" inflicted on the country by Democrats in recent years.

to make up for the lost revenue of eliminating the unconstitutional income tax, Perry would start selling naming rights to Federal Buildings and Parks

Say hello to the TostitosTM White House and the GoDaddyTM  Congressional Dome. And of course Grand Tetons Park brought to you by HootersTM

As part of the deal, Perry would also include product placement in all his oval office speeches.
"My fellow Americans, and snack lovers..."

Sell naming rights to national parks? More like just sell them off completely. I imagine the Grand Tetons could finance a pretty decent tax cut for the wealthy, making it that much easier for them to buy the next national park that goes up for sale.

An impossible situation is a possibility every political junkie may face.  And how we deal with the impossible is at least as important as how we deal with the possible; otherwise, you could end up serving an indefinite term as PONA - President of New America.  Has that never occurred to you?...Well, now you have something new to think about.  Carry on.

Inertia sets in. Less changes than expected.

This is the only real thing that would happen. Besides minor things being passed to please the base the country would continue on as usual. No radical proposals will be implemented once they actually have office.

Given Perry is good friends with the drug companies (remember his attempted gardasil mandate), watch him push for something like that. However, I know at least one Republican Senator would oppose it so he would need even more or else a Democrat to jump on board.

I take it this is if he has 60 Senators for the entire two year (no way he keeps 60 through midterms) period (compared to Obama only have 60 for part of the two years. While the Democrats screw up tends to be domestic (Obamacare) I'd be more concerned that a Republican with that situation would start another war. Domestically, Perry couldn't do anything worse than Obama would have done if he had 60 Senators for the whole two years.
