CSD, what gives you unease about Topp besides his lack of parliamentary experience?

Because I don't get a good vibe from Topp. I suppose I'm not alone.

I didn't get a good vibe from Topp at first, but then I heard him speak and was actually very impressed by him...and he's very articulate in French too!

Not really surprising from someone who grew in French and suburban Longueuil.

I don't, but my explanations keep getting deleted by Al.

Feel free to PM me then. I mean not to offend you personally; it was more of an attack at Eric Grenier (who is defenceless as he doesnt post here).

308 is fine as long as he's just giving raw comments on polling data and not anything more. Once he gets into predictions and models, it's BS.

I'll post YET AGAIN and hope it does not get deleted:

308 drove me out of business. He killed my website. I was right and he was wrong and I got SO depressed about it, I lost my job.

So, shouldn't you be happy about my comment?
No, because he clearly won the battle of my best VS his best. While I'm begging banks to cash my welfare cheques, he is writing for newspapers.

I'm really confused. But, I'm sorry for offending you, but I will continue to discredit his site. You should do the same.

He probably thought it was a bit too personal for this forum.

This is so. Nick will get a longer explanation after I've cleaned up here.

Aye, Al and I have had a talk over PM and I better understand what he is thinking, and I've apologized.

Meh, seems like I missed 3/4 of the fun. Sad

Teddy, you're the best. Not the best imaginable, but the best actually possible in this imperfect world of ours. 308 does not exist as far as I am concerned.

Last week's At Issue had "premature Topp coronation" (by the NDP establishment) as one of the year's biggest political mistakes. I agree about the bad timing, but will reserve judgment on Topp himself until/if he's elected leader.

I don't know what they mean by a "coronation" - no one in the NDP sees it as a coronation at all. It has always been a highly competitive race and I don't think Topp ever expected otherwise. I also think that the "timing" issue they refer to is a total non-issue. Topp may or may not be elected leader of the NDP, but if he loses it will not be because word of his candidacy leaked a bit faster than some people might have liked. I doubt if any NDP members care or even remember that - three months ago is already ancient history.

I was amused t how the At Issue pundits described Topp as an "over-rated" politician. My reaction was "over-rated by who???" I have yet to hear anyone go on and on about how fantastic he is in the first place. If anyone, we tend to hear so much about how he has no political experience and no retail political skills...at this point I see him more as an "under-rated" politician!

They meant most of the NDP's top figures endorsing Topp. Mulcair's only big name is Ed Schreyer. Topp and Nash divvied up the others. Biggest names to yet endorse are Miller and Selinger, and Miller would probably go with either Topp or Nash. The difference between the Dipper and Grit establishments, IMO is that Dippers elect but then subordinate to the leader (Layton), while Grits control (Iggy) but never elect (Dion).

Broadbent and Romanow do not equal "the entire NDP establishment" they are two important people among many.

CSD, what's your unease with Topp about?

He fell from nowhere and instrumentalised the death of someone.

On that we agree.

Anyhoo, here's the history behind unelected leaders.

Mulcair leads a new poll. The federal numbers in Quebec are Dippers 33, BQ 27, Tories 18, Grits 16. What continues to mystify me is the Liberals only in 2nd place among non-Francophones.

All that matters is the leadership numbers. To which I am more than content with. Smiley

Yeah, a poll of 300 people of whom 150 or so expressed an opinion. Sounds like some great poll for sure.

A polling firm needs to buy some membership lists to do some polling. That's what we did at EKOS for the last Liberal leadership race.

I don't believe federal NDP membership lists can be bought by third parties. Those lists are only made available to candidates for the leadership.
