I think we have a winner for "most boring redistricting process". Hawaii's reapportionment commission released this map:

http://elections3.hawaii.gov/citizenhelp/plans/reapportionment-congressional-H1.pdf

...which extends the western border of HI-01 a bit. That's it.

This is an egregiously partisan gerrymander, and Democrats should be ashamed of themselves.  The least they could have done was to preserve the boundaries of communities of interest.  If that resulted in a 1-1 D-R map, well, that's only fair.

How small would districts have to be to be able to draw a McCain district in Hawaii?

McCain only won three precincts in the entire state, none of them contiguous, so really, really small.

Does Hanabusa live in the new HI-01?

It does in fact put her home in HI-01.

I don't think she lives in the revised HI-01 unless she moved. She's from Waianae last I heard and that's further northwest than the boundary.

Where politicians live has absolutely no effect on what district they run in, correct?

She lives in Ko Olina, which is added to HI-01.

Correct, particularly in Hawaii; Ed Case, Patsy Mink, and Colleen Hanabusa have all represented districts they don't live in.

Maps approved with minor changes; some vague court challenge is possible, but this has, indeed, proved to be the most boring redistricting process in the country.
