The police department should be passing out shotties to storekeepers, IMO.

It takes a special sort of human garbage to engage in this kind of mindless destruction.

Yes because having a gun war now would really calm things down.

Nothing wrong with defending your business from these idiots.

BBC has a video of the Mayor being heckled in Clapham here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14464139
/
Edit: the main complaint - basically - is 'where the f*** were you all last night?'

"We want Labour!"

I'm not defending these horrible events but handing out shotguns to shopkeepers and expecting the problem to be solved is naive and will just led more deaths more anger and even more riots.

The gun maniacs are hilarious!  Less mayhem has occurred in this newsworthy riots than in an ordinary day of shootings in the US.  Polite society my arse.

An unintended consequence of this is that the sitting government could now get away with just about anything it wanted; laws on 'reasonable force' to protect property, changes to benefits etc. All this becomes more 'palatable' electorally. Likewise, the 'womble' clean up seems to have got people thinking 'Oh that's what they mean by the Big Society.'

For all the heckling of Boris, Ken on the other-hand couldn't stop 'being Ken' which is not really what people want to hear at the moment.

There have been complaints of under-reporting of the riots in Liverpool; hopefully this is rectified soon or else that's just going to add another chip on their shoulder.

Could the Americans posting on this thread please kindly refrain from providing evidence to bolster unfortunate and deeply regrettable national stereotypes.

Anyways, questions also need to be asked about the media coverage of all of this, especially the 24 news channels. They've made things a lot worse, I think.

It's okay Al, all you Brits need to do is arm yourselves to the teeth with guns!  That'll solve all your problems, just like it did over here.

No one needs to be armed to the teeth, but do you deny a rioter would be less likely to steal or commit arson if the owner of the building was there with a fire arm for self dense?

I saw an interview with some neighborhood people on NBC, late teens, early 20's, women, some wearing hijabs.  They basically said that the rioters bums and said there was no reason to riot.  It also showed mixed race crowds cheering the police.

As this is a topic about riots in a country that doesn't have a retarded national obsession with guns, I'm not going to answer that question here.

Actually, you did have owners with guns driving off rioters.

I was actually thinking about sending in the army in London (with live ammunition), or just a couple of Gurkhas.

London or one of the outlying areas.
