This poll is such an outlier it's not even funny. According to the PDF, 46% of those polled are Tea Party supporters. Is the real number even close?

The 2010 Exit Poll showed:

41% Support Tea Party
31% Oppose Tea Party
24% Neutral

That was when the Tea Party hooligans were pretty much at their absolute peak, and it was a low-turnout election anyhow. No way the 2012 election will have even close to 46% Tea Party support.

Gingrich comes within 6% of Obama and performs better than all of the other non-Romney Republicans? How can that be? Republicans themselves don't even like him anymore.

Yeah, this poll seems fishy. Everyone hates that guy by this point.

Obama is beatable if the GOP doesn't nominate a nutter. It's not like he can point to a huge list of accomplishments during his first term - at least ones that turned out well.

Does the GOP nominate anything but nutters?

It just means that the soft leaners are at approximately 50-40 pro-Obama at this point against a generic Republican.  Uptick for Obama against dislikes (Palin) and downtick for familiar faces (Romney).  Lots of mileage to cover before this stuff becomes relevant.

It's one poll, but this one looks really bad for Obama, IMO.  Romney isn't exactly Mr. Awesome.

Apparently, Bill Clinton was in a very similar situation in June 1995:

1. Barack Obama is not Bill Clinton
