Nice. If Huckabee and Palin stay out, I think Paul has a good chance of finishing in the top tier in most states. The disadvantage is I think he has  a pretty low ceiling of optimal support. He may get to third or so in the polls(A few state polls have already shown this) But he'll really struggle to do any better than that.

But then, I am a cynic. Be nice if he could win a caucus or two.

Huh, I didn't think he would do it.

I wonder if this will be enough to scare Johnson out?

Odd that he pulled a Gingrich. It was a quiet announcement.

At least Gingrich held a press conference to launch a website

Hopefully Paul will run for the Libertarians if he don't get the nod. Then I might actually vote for him if I don't like the Republican

Gasp! I thought that he would concede the libertarian kingdom to his son or to Johnson. I predict that he'll run for the LP nomination if he loses this time.

If he does run as a Libertarian after hypothetically losing in the primary, hopefully we'd get an interesting election night. I'll bet 1992 was an interesting one and we may get a repeat (though probably not as successful-Paul'd probably get five percent or less).

I disagree-I think he could do just as good as Perot, provided the Republicans run Palin or Bachman, and the Constitution Party endorses him.

Might be bad news for Romney, Daniels, and Huntsman, as outside of the Libertarian votes he gets, Paul likely takes more votes from the fiscal conservative, social moderate crowd than he does the Jeebus crowd

He hasn't actually announced anything yet.  Nothing is really "official" yet.  Only the Daily Caller is reporting that he's "filled out the paperwork for an exploratory committee".  Until other media outlets report that, I'll take it with a grain of salt.

However, other media outlets are reporting that Paul has indicated that he'll participate in the May 5th debate.  Then again, Santorum has also said that he'll participate in the debate, and he hasn't formed an exploratory committee yet either.

Much like a hypothetical Chafee candidacy in 2004?

I know, right? Fifth/Fourth place and 10% is such a joke!

Lets back a serious candidate like Pawlenty (eighth place, 2-4%)!

He also won the CAPC Straw Poll two years in a row, and whenever ads about the election pop up on websites he's usually one of the names.

By the way, has anyone else confirmed that they are running?

Johnson won't pull out because of this. He's said before that he's not Paul and that Paul won't affect his decision either way.

Hey, this is my first ever post!

In Britain here, I'm torn between voting for the lesser evil. Labour are socially and economically evil. Lib Dems are sort of economically evil but socially awesome and the Conservatives are socially iffy and economically awesome. So, I have to vote Lib Dem!

Anyway, sorry, just wanted an intro. I love Ron Paul, myself and other UK classical liberals really look up to him as an example of Jeffersonian principles. So I'm really glad to hear he's joining the presidential debate, hopefully he'll own them all like he did on foreign policy a few years back.

Ron Paul for 2012!
