It is a far more homoerotic trait than repeatedly visiting something called 'dudefest', is it not?

I have nothing to add, but I do want to express my appreciation.

Do we have any straight posters from Massachusetts?

What's funny is, of all of us, I'm the only Democrat.

While we are both camp, certainly, I have never posted a picture of my naked torso.

You may all thank me now.

What amazes me about this thread is the various people (gustaf, kelwjeit) who are apparently unaware that liking musicals and opera makes one gay.  Oh well, I guess they're Europeans and known no better.

I have to admit my surprise at the astounding level of prejudice on this supposedly liberal and youthful forum. Liking opera is more about having taste and education than any specific sexual orientation. I have many straight friends who love opera.

Maybe this is an American thing. But even gay people will tell you the percentage of Broadway/Opera fans that are gay is higher then that of the population at large. I don't doubt things may be different in Europe though.

Yeah, and the percentage of women who like swimming is higher than the percentage of men who do. I still wouldn't think that male friends of mine who enjoy swimming are actually women, since that would be, you know, pretty stupid.

Gustaf is thinking of opera, not musical. (Failing to understand the distinction presumably is an American thing. Roll Eyes ) Which is Camp "Money, No Idea What to Do With It & A Penchant For Really Tasteless Showing Off",* not Camp Gay.

*stereotypically. Yes, yes, of course there are people who like opera for other reasons. Most of them, I suppose. They are more likely to buy cd's of it than attend it live, though.

I like some musicals, and can appreciate all styles of music (would never spend the money to actually attend an opera, of course). So feel free to draw whatever distinctions about me that you wish.

I hate opera, but I love musicals. I also hate when people ask me if I'm offended by gay/bi stereotypes (because I am bisexual) and I always respond with "No, I'm not. I think some of them are funny and the gay/bi people that take offense to them need to lighten up and laugh at them."

Lol, what? That might be true in countries where opera is expensive, but not here in Sweden. I pay less than 20 euros when I go to the opera with my friends.

Getting the experience live is different from listening to it at home, which is why I enjoy seeing it live. I'm sure there are people going there to show off in fancy clothes, but I suspect they're very much in the minority in an opera audience (at least in Stockholm).

But while I was mainly talking about opera, I actually like musicals too. It's true that liking musicals is more typical for women and gay men than for straight men, but it's still pretty strange to assume that this holds for everyone.

Who'd have thought that stereotypes about the 'typical' opera fan would be different in Scandinavia and Germany Tongue

Opera is hilarious though. I especially love absurdly pretentious librettos.

Gustaf seems to come from a sort of intellectual class where this stuff is less seen as gay. Kind of interesting really and would be worth researching more. Let me give another example: For example he didn't seem to reply to my "Would you ever get a massage from a guy?" thread here, but I imagine he'd probably answer "yes" and would have no problem about it. Now the question also came up on another forum where support for gay marriage is basically 100% and any remote type of homophobia is like some type of cardinal sin, and yet all guys were basically 100% opposed. Not saying that Gustaf is gay of course, just commenting on how interesting it is that such attitudes can differ so greatly.

That said I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of 20something males would not enjoy going to an opera even if it was free. And would probably prefer Dudefest.

No, he's from Scandinavia.* Where attitudes towards so-called high culture tend to be about as different to such attitudes in America as is technically possible.

*Or, rather, 'yes' but that's not especially relevant.

I consider Walter more independent than DINO, based on his facebook postings.  He doesn't like Obama, but he doesn't trust the Republicans, either.

Believe me, naked men in that sense has no gay implications.

Why wouldn't you?  Seriously, if I were having back problems and needed a massage I'd find a cheap massage parlor try to recruit one of my friends that had taken a massage course go to the most qualified person I could find, whether male or female.

The best massage I ever got, not that I've gotten many, was from a fiftyish Rajastani Muslim cameldriver.
