Two fast-trending Democratic states that Obama won with decent but not extraordinary margins in 2008 that Bush had previously won twice. Demographically, these states are undergoing a significant transition to the benefit of the Democratic Party, but which one will be more Democratic in this next election?

Colorado was won by Obama with a margin of 8.95%.
Virginia was won by Obama with a margin of 6.3%.

Colorado was won by Bush with a margin of 4.7%.
Virginia was won by Bush with a margin of 8.2%.

2008 vs. 2004 numbers used.

VA will be very similar to Obama's national margin, as it was in 2008. CO will be slightly higher.

I vote for Colorado, if 2010 was any indication. Democrats held onto the Governor's Mansion and Bennet maintained his seat against teabagger Ken Buck.

I'm not sure if either state will give Obama a higher margin of victory in 2012, but if not, I reckon Virginia will swing GOP more than Colorado.

Colorado

If there is any section of the country (outside of the Mormon triangle and maybe Montana) where Obama has the maximum opportunity for vote growth it's the west.

Virginia is likely to vote for Obama if he wins, but it's Democratic shift isn't as advanced as Colorado (which has been arguably shifting Democratic since the 1980s).

I'm going to guess that the spread between the two states is no more than 2.50%. And

VA will go red in 2012, I certainly believe it's possible. I see CO as safe Dem in 2012.

Neither...Obama will get a lower percentage of the vote in the two states...doesn't mean he will loose both...he could, but no matter what I think he will get a lower percentage of the vote in these two states than in 2008...

I guess you misunderstood the question.
