Smug, mostly. But I have no doubt that the younger generation will have something to teach us if we are willing to listen. I don't go in for the "kids today are so dumb/dangerous/naive" line of thinking that olds have been spouting forever. These kids have grown up with the web at their fingerprints. At the earliest, most critical years they already had opportunities for insight far beyond what was available for people my age. But they are still kids. And things haven't changed that much. I rather look forward to being on the other side of the generation gap. It will be supremely fascinating.

Kids these days with the music and the hair...have y'all been to a mall lately? The last thing I want to do is interact with the modern 13 year-old.

So says the 23 year-old.

Yes, that's what's been holding them back.

You think there'll be girls among these people? Or are you a forum normal (ie a gay)?

You mean kids whose first video game console was an Xbox360?

Ugh!  How awful!

Sorry, but you're wrong on this one.

Exactly.  My first video game console was an N64, but back when they were on the way out.  I'm much more of a Nintendo guy.  My younger cousins just got an Xbox 360 for Christmas this past week, and I'm OK with that, but I wouldn't want to have one.  Especially after seeing the creepy pictures that some of the games take. My first game system was the original NES.  I loved Mario a little too much.  Then I got an SNES and it was all over.  SimCity.. Super Mario... DK Country...

It's a sad thing that so many people gauge their generation based on what video games they played. There's a big world out there, guys.

It's not a bad gauge.  Mine was an Atari 2600.  Faux wood veneer finish.  We bought it when I was 14 and it lasted till I was 17.  It hooked up to the back of the television, but only after you took the cable TV off of it.  Eventually we got an A/B switch so we could stop having to roll it out.  We had two cassettes for it, Combat and Pong.  By the time they came out with a Pac-Man cartridge for it, I'd already spent about a million dollars in quarters at the local video arcade, The Quarter Deck, playing the real Pac-Man game, and had pretty much outgrown that sort of thing anyway.
