How well could Roy Moore do in the GOP Primaries in 2008. Assume the major candidates are Hagel, Owens, Frist, Pataki, and Guliani.

Who is Roy Moore?  Any relation to Michael Moore?

Who is Roy Moore?  Any relation to Michael Moore?

He is a former Alabama State Judge who was removed from power because he refused to remove a statue of the ten commandments from the courthouse after federal orders.

He is very unlike Michael Moore, except in the fact they are opposite.

Which begs the question:  who would win is a Presidential showdown between Moore and Moore?  Smiley

As for Roy - no chance in a primary.  Although I think the monument flap wasn't as big a deal as it was made to be, he would really have to tone down the rhetoric in a national campaign.

Any chance of him getting elected Governer?

Sure.  In the last poll I saw (taken after he was removed from the bench), Moore was running neck and neck with the incumbent Republican Riley in a hypothetical 2006 primary.  He also outpolled both Riley and Siegelman in a three-way race.

I'm not sure he would want it, though.  The governor's mansion in Montgomery seems to have become the place where Alabama politicians go to ruin their careers.

He wouldn't stand a chance in the Republican presidential primaries.

Moore is a good man. And is my role model and personal hero. He stood up to the overbearing federal government much like I would.

But he would be very misrepesented by the media and lose early. I am not sure he wants to be in the legislative or executive branches of government anyway.

Yes, they would surely blast him in every liberal paper in the north and west.

My Scenario for a Roy Moore run for President

The Republican Party, attempting to seem more "Centrist", nominate Rudolph Giuliani as their candidate. Whether he is a Governor, Senator, Represenativie, or whatever is up to you. Bill Frist is chosen as his Vice President to appeal to "Conservatives."

Seeing this, Judge Roy Moore, and he might be Goverbor, announces that he will run as the Constitution Party nominee for President. State Senator Rick Jore of Monatna is made his Vice Presidential Running Mate.

Democrats, seising the moment, nominate Senator Evan Bayh, because he is seen as a "Moderate". And, to please my buddy Alcon, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is chosen as Vice President.

Well Moore is polling well due to Conservative outrage over the two "Moderates" and he attends the debates. Whether you like Judge Moore or not, you have to admit he is a good debater. He does well in the Giuliani-Bayh-Moore Debates and polls well on Election Day.

November 4, 2008, Election Day:[/b]

Evan Bayh/Bill Richardson, Democrat: 343 Electoral Votes; 44.8 perecent of Popular Vote

Rudolph Giuliani/Bill Frist, Republican: 130 Electoral Votes; 35.6 percent of Popular Vote

Roy Moore/Rick Jore, Constitution: 65 Electoral Votes; 19.2 percent of the popular vote

I think Moore could easily win a presidential primary, given that he would have the base - born agains - firmly behind him.  His candidacy would definitely be a test for the plutocrats - can they make use of the religious fanatics without completely losing control of the party to them?

PBrunsel, that's a good scenario. No way Moore would carry Montana though, even if his running mate's from there. Bayh would also probably carry Arkansas and Virginia.

Define "most". With 84% of the population being Christian, him winning 2/3 would give him 56%, that's a landslide, and sorry, old Roy ain't winning a landslide.

No. Wallace got a large chunk of what's now called the populist vote in the midwest, far more than Moore would even under this scenario, and he got the Southern White Racist vote. He didn't do much in the West.

moore wouldnt do as well as wallace simply because there are (fortunately) a lot less wallace-type voters now than there were in 68.
