If illegal, do you just roll the gurney out of the hospital, and dump the patient on skid row, or what? That actually happened per a news story in LA once - sort of. A hospital found out that a patient had no insurance and was broke, so they "released" the patient too early, and drove the patient to skid row, and shoved him out the door - in a wheel chair. That action was not well received - at all. Lawsuits of course ensued.  Who knew?

Or do you care for patient, and when it is appropriate to release, release the patient in the ICE, who puts the guy on a bus down to TJ?  What is going on in the minds of the AZ legislature one wonders.

They've already started down that slippery slope, so I suppose this is just the normal next step. Though I fear what kind of retarded bullsh**t their mentally challenged government will sh**t up next.

I didn't expect someone as experienced as you Gramps to be surprised by this stuff.
Especially after the last two years.

This is what pretty much every first-world country besides the US does (one reason why their healthcare costs are lower).

It's easy to be idealistic about this but you have to understand resources aren't infinite, every time they treat an illegal immigrant without coverage they're not only doing it out of pocket there's also a good chance they may be delaying or denying treatment for others including american poor people. That's a large part of why so many ERs have effectively shut down around large swathes of California and the Southwest in general. I could see treating people along the border and then sending them back home but they should by no means feel obligated to do so when they're already here especially in tough times like now.

Another step too far. I do not see how this stops illegal immigration at all.

Guys, it is just wrong to deny medical care, at least for something serious, to persons, legal or not, who need it (subject to the same rationing regime as everyone else who can't pay would be subject to). Sorry. Same with denying secondary education to minors who are illegal - that's wrong too. How one could live with one's conscience doing anything else escapes me - it really does.

what is it about AZ...Do they really want to be known as the 'we hate mexicans' state? This kind of stuff may sell in the short term to the angry white guy vote, but it will kill them in the long term. It is said that here in CA that the anti-immigrant GOP moves in the mid nineties only pushed more hispanics into the Democratic party. Can the GOP continue to allienate the fastest growing part of the population?  AZ could soon follow NV, NM and CO and become another western blue state.

I have yet to state anywhere I am a christian. I am Catholic.

Also, I do care about every human being but this is ridiculous. They shouldn't be here.

You'd be surprised how many people consider the two completely different.

Yeah, pretty much everyone in my state considers Christians to be different than Catholics, even many Catholics themselves.

Are those the same people that are likely to identify themselves as "American" in the Census?

This is the first time I have ever been aware of this (particularly the bit that some Catholics don't consider themselves Christians). I thought only Mormon's were exiled by many from the Christian community.

What oh what is this about? Perhaps something should be put up on the religion thread.

Do you one of the main reasons I enjoy life so much? I learn something every day! I mean that.
