I am writing a timeline in which Huey Long survives an assasination attempt. He begins his journey to the White House by running Senator Burton K. Wheeler (D-MT)  on the Share-Our-Wealth Party as a spoiler to Roosevelt. Landon wins the election in 1936 with a plurality. Long runs with Joe Kennedy in 1940 and wins in a landslide. In 1944, Long wins again against Earl Warren.

If you have any suggestions on how these scenarios might play out on an electoral map, I would welcome any suggestions.

I'm reading something incredibly similar at alternatehistory.com.

If that is "To Gain the World", that is my timeline.

No, I'm reading "Every man a king" by a poster named DudeAlmighty.

Hi! Yes, this is DudeAlmighty at the AH.Com forum, and I am the author of Every Man A King.

MS: If you have any questions regarding Huey Long, don't feel afraid to ask. Just don't make yours too similar to mine! Wink

That seems like one of the strangest coincidences I've seen on this forum...

Um... Jesus couldn't beat FDR in 1936. He must have screwd up badly in this alternate TL.

Not entirely. The reason that I posted here was because someone mentioned this TL on my thread at AH.Com.

Not necessarily. Many in Roosevelt's inner circle had poling data that would suggest that Long at least 6 million votes from the President should the former attempt run as a third party.

The thirties was the zenith of liberal power in American politics. I believe a more radical candidate - i.e. Huey Long - might very well split Roosevelt's base, if not overcome the President himself.

As to DudeAlmighty947 , I promise all the elements of  "To Gain the World" , and any similarity to other timelines is purely coincidental. (I found a post dating from 2009 on this forum that had Long paired with Joe Kennedy the same way I proposed).

Long/Kennedy 514
Landon/Knox 17

Since I cannot post a map yet: Landon carries Kansas, Maine, and Vermont.

I complete understand how it is; my idea of JPK going into politics in 1936 for my TL originated from an old, unfinished TL started by someone on AH.Com.

...And that idea has been used by a lot of people. I think it's always more interesting to see him as an actual politician, though I wouldn't have wanted him as President. I've read at least two other timelines that had him as Governor of Massachusetts, so that idea's no big deal. Admittedly, I'm probably going to be using that idea when my TR timeline reaches the 30's/40's.

Well, in "To Gain the World," Joe Kennedy does become president.
That's all I'm spoiling.
