For the record, I'm also disappointed by Belgiansocialist's choice to run for VP with an unexperienced right-winger who is running a demagogic campaign.

QFT. Things like this are the main culprits in making this game a useless personality contest filled with bickering and feuds every election time; instead of doing interesting and useful stuff. But I guess that's what you get when half of the voters don't give a rat's ass about serious sh**t.

I'm sorry Hash, but I think you're being unfair here. J.J does have serious proposals to improve the game. You complain about the game being a useless personality contest filled with bickering, but how can it be anything else when Atlasian law has gotten so complex and difficult to browse that many people just don't know what's law and what isn't anymore. This campaign proposes to fix that, and hopefully solve some of the games problems in the process. Maybe our campaign isn't 100% serious, but the stuff we're talking is some serious sh**t.

Yeah. Except that I've always backed game reform of some type. Except that your guy has like no recent experience in Atlasia and I truly doubt he understands the whole issue of recent contemporary Atlasia. Furthermore, he's running as an outright joke on a one-issue campaign and his method of achieving the little patches he wants are not the way to do it. Really, systematic vetoes of bills is perhaps the most retarded idea I've heard in this game. He may raise good issues, and definitely the wiki always requires work (but that's the AG's responsibility and should be raised with him, and people should make sure he does it) and maybe a law for deregistration would be cool (but surely if you draft one, a Senator will happily introduce it and the Senate will do what it wishes with it). Running for president on a one-issue platform which wants to block the entire f-ing legislative process to achieve little patches of that type and nothing else is most certainly not the way to do it. And I'm thus extremely disappointed that a person as intelligent as you can agree with such a dumb one-issue joke platform. Thankfully he won't win, but if he did it'd be a very bad thing for the game and for those who care about it. And he doesn't care about the game.

Furthermore, this is a political game. There are going to be laws and traditional legislative bureaucracy. And thank God for it. If it wasn't for that, we'd really be a 100% personality contest/bickering contest. Even more than now.

Well yeah, obviously J.J. won't win. That's sort of obvious. The only reason he's running is because he wants to gain attention for the issues he's running on. Nor does anyone believe the solutions J.J. proposes (i.e. the complete veto) would be the right way to go about such a change, but it's our (or at the very least: my) goal to make people aware od the necessity of a more accesible Atlasia. We'll leave working out how to realize that to the grown-ups.

Of course I don't understand the issue of recent contemporary Atlasia.  Neither do a sizable portion of the voters.

That's the problem.  If we want to become active, we can't find out what is going on!

I know of no other way that a president can effect change other than doing that.

Ah, that is the problem.  I can say, I want out of the game, but under the rules, I cannot leave it, without violating the rules.  If I say, I want to be more involved, I can't find anything.  You, effectively, want to have it both ways.

I care enough about the game not to violate its rules and to act within its rules, at least those I can find.

It's undeniably funny that your party fell into a dramatic feud over which of two tickets to pick and now that you have only one left you STILL manage to feud over it.

I see no reason why we shouldn't support Ben if he wants to run for President.

You thought that any way Tongue

I will undertake to ensure we have a resolution to this issue shortly.

There are some other factors to consider, and I plan on making a statement shortly.

I'm rearranging the deck chairs while it is on the bottom of the Atlantic.  Ironically, I cannot even abandon ship.

And, to be a bit more serious, in the last day, I've seen, in game terms, senior members, supposedly experienced and active, that took days to find a copy of legislation that effects the right of every member.  In game terms, we have one experienced and active candidate that doesn't know if a war ended and another who doesn't know why we're still paying for it.

You don't see a problem?

The UDL has a great future. If now the funeral bells are ringing and we are still living, is this a very good sign. Grin

You guys are still doing much better than the RPP was back in October 2009. Infighting is always a pain, but be glad that your convention does not feature 54 pages of it. Grin

My fellow members of the UDL,

I will be brief.

This is a difficult time for the country, for the progressive movement and for this party. The exit of our endorsed ticket took me completely by surprise. In my capacity as Chair I have been working hard in the background to ensure that this party and this movement has a chance.

I want to apologise to those who have wondered what has been happening and why we have not had a vote for replace our original ticket.

This election is winnable, but we need the left to unite, even if it is not as one ticket. This will require preferences to transfer cleanly and no votes to exhaust.

In that end, I ask this convention to formally endorse the ticket of Ben/Ogis for the presidential election in 8 days time.

I ask all UDL members, the members of the JCP and the Independents to consider that this will be a very close election, this is a dominant ticket of a united right and we will need every single one of you to give the progressive agenda of Atlasia the opportunity for survival.

Thank you all.

I thank Polnut and Verin, and I hope that the UDL will see fit to endorse the Ben/Ogis ticket, so that we can march to victory next weekend!

The UDL must stand united in a time of great conflict. Endorse the Ben/Ogis ticket and witness the rise from the tortuous path of party creation to new heights of legitimacy.

For the first time in well over a month I'm excited about this party's chances in the election and about the future of the party itself.

Thank you Ben and Ogis.

Fellow members of the UDL,

I thank you all for your statements of support; it is greatly appreciated.  But we must go further.  We must make it official.  I urge the Chairman to call a vote, so that Ogis and I can go forward with the official support of the Party!

I agree with Xahar.

I believe that I can declare by acclamation - the ticket of Ben/Ogis to be the official nominees of the UDL for President and Vice President.
