Well, there is another way to put it. In order to account for redistricting, here are the county maps. Wink

Seems like you are right : the maps are mostly unchanged except for the East which saw a massive swing. How to explain that, proximity with Vermont ?

I'm interested in the biggest differences between 1992 and 2008. Arkansas is pretty obvious but there are a bunch of other districts I didn't expect to see Clinton win. As for the a swing the other way, Vermont is pretty obvious, but what else? Chicago suburbs are to be expected, but are there some other out-of-the-way districts that quietly swung a lot to Obama?

The following CD's went for Bush in 1992 and Gore in 2000 (since this not clouded by redistricting):

CD    Rep. in 2000

PA-7 (Weldon)
MI-11 (Knollenberg)
IL-10 (Kirk)
CA-10 (Tauscher)
CA-28 (Dreier)
CA-46 (Sanchez)
NJ-4 (Smith)
NJ-7 (Ferguson)
NJ-12 (Holt)
NY-1 (Grucci)
NY-2 (Israel)
NY-13 (Fossella)
NY-19 (Kelly)
NY-24 (McHugh)

Most are affluent suburban districts near liberal large cities.

What the heck is going on with the 23d? I thought that districts had to be at least contiguous to be considered legal.

They are, it's just that the lines of connection were incredibly small I couldn't draw them. Sad

The Third District.  It gave Clinton 57% of the vote.

Yes, I'll try to get some of these other Southern States pretty soon.  Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia will be next.  Smiley

Virginia

I won't have a margin key, however.  This map is already on the Atlas.

Ugh! Another ugly gerrymander.

I see that Clinton didn't have any luck with his fellow southerners, besides the Appalachia miners.

I'll have the Georgia and North Carolina maps up soon, but for right now I'll give you this:

South Carolina

BTW   I'm changing my map colors to match those used by the atlas.  In the map above, the darkest shade of blue=50% Rep., and the darkest shade of red=60% Dem.

It would be helpful if we had a bigger version of your Georgia map. It's too small and the colors too dark to see the lines.
