Well, unsurprising, but I was hoping reason would prevail. I see afleitch has stuck to the usual party line Roll Eyes It would be nice if you replied to my criticisms of tuition fees some time rather than simply repeating what the government says.

I'm not repeating what the government says Smiley And I have already responded to criticisms with my explanation was to why the deal is not that bad for poorer students.

We're still going to have to pay more overall. And it's a step further away from free education.

Ideally all higher education should be free, but there's too many students in too many shoddy universities on too many pointless courses for that to be feasible.

I don't really know how I feel about this bill.

Get rid of Trident and we could scrap fees altogether. Seems pretty simple to me.

... For the Tories.

Remember what happened after the last bad riots?  1983.

There's no evidence that social unrest in the 1980s helped the Tories electorally. Though, obviously, if there were an election tomorrow you'd see very high turnout in certain Tory strongholds as a direct consequence, but there isn't.

You mean the poll tax in 1990. Roll Eyes

Sort've OT, but does anyone think Clegg can last much far past the AV referendum (assuming it fails)? When do the Liberals reach the point and say "enough is enough" and get a new leader?

So what percentage of Liberal backbenchers actually voted for the fee increase? 40-ish?

Quick 'day after' update

-Camilla was struck in the ribs by a protester through the car window. As a result the police were allegedly 'seconds' away from drawing their weapons.

- The arse who swung from the flag on the Cenotaph, no suprise is David Gilmour's (of Pink Floyd fame) son. (The Sussex Popular Front clearly out in force then...)
