Other than Illinois, I've never had line issues or customer service issues at the many DMVs I've been to.  Nebraska (Omaha) and Georgia (Atlanta) where both very nice, quick and painless.  Slightly less so in Mississippi and Florida, but still nowhere near as painfull as the meme suggests.

So DMV over BRTD easy.

In California, BRTD would seem like a veritable second coming to an end times fundamentalist Christian, as compared to the DMV - a very bad place indeed - almost akin to a hell where one must walk on hot lava in bare feet, with no nerve cells killed by doing so - they just become more sensitive with heat, even if the temps surpass the center of our sun.

Why are DMVs so horrible on the coasts?  My anti-union gut assumes it over powered unions....or maybe just the general sense of pessimism that comes with living near an ocean?

The DMV, assuming it was in the suburbs.

I'll put our DMVs against Torie's anyday. To perpetuate itself, our local political machine finds the most ghetto incompetant people possible and gives them easy jobs.  When I turned 21, it took 3 hours to get a new ID at the express location. All they had to do was take my picture and press a button. Getting the initial license is, literally, an all day affair. I've heard the lines move faster toward closing time because they want to go home. I may try that when I turn 30.

ND's DMVs aren't too bad. I remember when I was 22 I had to wait in line for about a half hour, but that was basically the flagship one at the state capital. Getting a Minnesota license was quite easy, though I'm annoyed I had to take a written test considering I had been driving in Minnesota for 5 years with no tickets or anything. Luckily I passed it on the second try (I had to take the ND one four times to pass it to get a learner's permit.)

Well, considering they only have to provide service to like 30 people, I'd hope not.

The one I'm referring to is in the state capitol building and has to deal with far more people than that. I remember it as always being busier than the ones I've been to in Minnesota.

It is more likely just the perception of the spoiled elitists who complain about them, dead0man, than any actual failing.

Any DMV I've been to anywhere in the world is highly efficient, polite, and reasonable.
