Has no one ever had to undergo a patdown to enter a sports stadium?

Do they rape you there too?

Rape?  Come on... I'll give you that this is more personal than is capable of being comfortable, but calling it "rape" is nothing but pure sensationalism.

What the TSA is doing is not even "patdown"; that is too gentle a term.

As was pointed out in this excellent piece, the TSA's "enhanced patdown" goes much further than even what the cops would consider a patdown; it's more along the lines of a "custody search", a special treatment once reserved for suspects who have been arrested and taken into custody. But now available to everyone at the airport...

Everyone see SNL's take on the TSA?

Well, the silver lining is that perhaps demand for high speed rail will increase.

Don't worry, soon TSA will be there too.

Well, obviously you need to defend against train hijacking.  They could build a track that leads directly through the White House.  (Obviously, it'd have to be an inside job.)

And eliminate any extra brakes on the trains.

Public officials are exempted? Sheep, get in line to get on your cattle car, we'll do what we want. Better "safe" then sorry!

What's next, security checks for every form of public transportation? What about schools and government buildings? I'm not going to feel safe until we go through pat-downs and radiation booths before entering or exiting our own homes.

I think it's hilarious how public officials always seem to be able to make decisions without facing any real consequences. Put them all through the body scanners and give them all pat-downs every time they fly. Maybe they will finally start to realise what they have been advocating.

A few things I would like to say. First of all those scanners don't show anything. It ain't porn and it won't tittilate even the most perverse of individuals. Those who think this is porn haven't been using the internet to it's fullest capability.

Secondly the pat downs for men are ok too. The pat downs for women go too far though. Especially the cupping of the breasts. WTF? I have undergone patdowns in Indian airports, where the threat of terrorism is higher and people accept such inconveniences, but as far as I know there is no fondling of the breasts.

Why is cupping men's balls ok, but not women's breasts?

I don't think they go that far up. They just stop below your "junk" AFAIK.

How do you know?  Have you seen any of the videos of the pat-downs being performed?  And what about well-endowed men?

I haven't gotten a pat down done by the TSA, so no I would not know. And I don't plan on finding out. Those scanners are good enough for me.

It doesn't bother me. Hey, it is just one more opportunity to show off my now rather nicely sculpted bod.  Tongue

By the way, sbane, I just saw an Indian in the hallway who was about 2 inches taller than me, which makes him close to 6'4".  How did that happen?  Smiley

Okay then, I'll assume you misspoke earlier when you said that pat-downs for men were okay, but for women were not okay, since you didn't fully understand the process.

The videos I have seen look fine to me. And again based on those same videos, the pat downs for women seem too intrusive to me.

Have you undergone these pat downs yourself?

From the photos of scans here, this isn't exactly high-def scanning. I can't see even the most perverted guy monitoring these getting many jollies no matter how they try.

I take it you're not going to fly as long as these regs are in effect, Libby?  Perhaps you had no intention of it......

I guess my point is.....I hate the TSA as much as anyone because in my view "security" is but a show, which makes the pat downs more ridiculous than they already are, but guess what?  I need to fly sometimes.  If you think I"m passing up on business, or driving 12 hours to go down south for a vacation/long weekend your nutso.

The boycott thing is but another show.....people need to do business and go places to relax.....and they'll put up with it.

Does that uber-suck?  Yep.
I have pretty much no choice but to fly several times over the next year, so I'm going to be dealing with these Fourth Amendment violations firsthand pretty soon.

If everyone would actually go along with a boycott, then it would have an effect, but I can't do it alone.

Their private jets are safe from the TSA.

Nearly all Senators fly commercial airlines, Libertas. I've actually seen two or three go through airport security myself.

In case anyone doubts that senators and congressmen fly commercial airlines, you can watch this video of Congressman John Conyers (D-MI). He may be looking at Playboy, but at least he's flying coach!

Of course it would be pointless for public officials to go through the scanners since the whole purpose of having them is to remind the average American that we must obey our rulers without question.

In other news, there's a war raging one between the establishment Left over at The Nation, which wants you to stop worrying and love the Obama police state, and Glenn Greenwald over at Salon. Mother Jones also posted a pro-TSA piece recently; apparently "progressives" are getting quite turned on by the thought of a "pat-down" by Obama's agents.
