I open pop cans like the 2nd picture shows.  I don't bend it all the way in.  I also make sure the pop tab is as flat as possible too... it always seemed odd that some people leave it sticking straight up.

I've never heard anyone do it. I don't hear anybody use any of the above very often. I waited tables in my younger days and people order a coke or a sprite or whatever. If somebody ordered a coke I did always confirm "regular coke" just because diet coke drinkers are f'ing nazis about getting diet and some people mumble.  If you must have a generic term, I'd just use "drink." If I'm eating out, what kind of drinks do you guys have? I'll say soda every now and then. Never, ever pop. I'd never heard anyone use that word until college and it sounds so stupid.

I always try to flatten the tab... I don't really think I've seen people who leave it sticking up.

That's the tab; I thought you were talking about the flap that gets pushed inside.  I thought it seemed a little strange to detach that and have it swimming around inside the drink.

As far as I know (like I said, I grew up in a part of the South that calls it soda always), coke only applies to sodas that look like coke. I don't think anyone calls mountain dew or sprite a coke.
