Is it what has replaced 'What are you listening to right now?'
In any case, just enjoy...
Formidable - Stromae
, on 'C à Vous' TV show (music starts at 7')
...now this is some...
live
music.
Belgians really gave great singers to the Francophone world...

Tonight was the 9th
Bundesvision Song Contest
. Usually a good opportunity to spot fresh bands and trends, this year's contest was quite a disappointment - a mix of traditional rock ballads, Neue Deutsche Welle revival, and German HipHop.
Winner was Bosse for Lower Saxony. "
So oder so
" is a nice song with good text. In the absence of anything spectacular, solid craftsmanship did the job.
Second-placed Johannes Oerding (Hamburg) represented the rock ballad faction with "
Nichts geht mehr
"
Favourite YouTube HipHop hero MCFitti from Berlin only came in third with "
Fitti mit'm Bart
"
Place four went to Keule from Brandenburg with their NDW retro song "
Ja Genau
". ("
taxes down, jobs up, nobody intends to build a wall - yes, of course..." plus a gay marriage kiss in the end
)
Interestingly, East German entries tended to have political texts: MeckPomm- "I turn terrorist", Saxony -"I don't need / can't get a flat (the city is my home)", while songs from the West were all about dance & fun or disappointed love.
Musically most interesting was Adolar (Saxony-Anhalt) with their Russian Folk- Heavy Metal crossover "
Hallelujah
".

Got super nostalgic one day and decided to bump some ODB. People write for him, but it hardly matters because he raps like nobody else. Seriously, Ason is one of a kind rapper.

Lately I've found myself really drawn to the Rilo Kiley songs sung by Blake Sennett, which is weird because it's so obviously wrong. I wonder what it means.

Spoon's newest
They Want My Soul
is... pretty good. A little disappointing given the heights I know they're capable of (
Gimme Fiction
and
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
are both firmly in my top 10 albums all-time), but it's good to have them back, and it's better than 2010's
Transference
at least. Honestly, I think the problem is that in some ways it's a little
too
slick and polished and overproduced, which is the exact opposite of
Transference
, which felt like an album of incomplete demos. Pendulum, swinging, etc.
Hopefully they hit that happy medium again next time.
For my taste, the opener "Rent I Pay" and the menacing "Knock Knock Knock" are the best cuts. Not a fan of "Outlier" at all; they don't even sound like Spoon on that track to me, too much distracting electronic backing there for my taste.

Periodically, I'll latch on to a relatively obscure band or artist and proceed to promote them aggressively.
Right now, that band or artist is
Twa Toots
.

Digging through some old Indie recs people gave to me a while back,
Atlas Sound is particularly good
. Multiple listens are probably necessary for most of the sounds, but the song linked is pretty good on the first time around.

I love old school punk like The Ramones, Clash, Buzzcocks, New York Dolls, Dead Boys, Dictators, Stooges, MC5 etc and a lot of 60s stuff as well like the Jefferson Airplane, Steppenwolf, Doors, and of course the Beatles, Stones and Who. Definitely some 50s rock as well. I guess i'm just an all around old school rock fanatic.

Been going through an Odd Future nostalgia trip. Tyler and Earl are great, Mellowhype is pretty good (though I wouldn't be far off in calling Hodgy Beats a mediocre beyond mediocre rapper), and there are a couple Domo Genesis songs that are pretty nice ("Supermarket" is particularly fun), though generally Domo is also on the mediocre side.
Haven't gotten back to re-listening to Frank Ocean, but that man has pipes.

this is old but reflects my thoughts exactly.
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
is one of my favorites ever, I could listen to "Don't Make Me A Target" for hours.

Spoon was my jam band in like 8th and 9th grade haha. I Turn My Camera On was my favourite song to play on bass for a while. Such a good band. Haven't listened to anything after Transference though, and
i didn't even listen to that entire record.

So David Gilmour is going to do a small European tour for his yet untitled new album. A shame. I flew to Philadelphia years ago to see Roger Waters play, but I don't see myself having the time or money to fly all the way across the pond. If I got the chance I'd do it in a heartbeat though. Live at Gdansk is probably my favorite live album, and I'd love to see him in action. Dude is getting up there.
