Decided to do the same exercise except with jazz, given that I enjoy that more.

free jazz
avant-garde jazz
modal jazz
bebop
ragtime
jazz fusion
dixieland
afro-jazz
jazz punk
swing
jazzcore

(I enjoy all jazz genres tho)

95% of the jazz I listen to is free jazz or avant-garde jazz, so that sort of exercise would be useless for me.

Picked up a copy of Talking Heads' 1984 live album Stop Making Sense the other day for the slender cost of 8 bucks. I knew it was going to be good, but it exceeded my expectations. My God it was great. In particular the acustic cover of Psycho Killer as well as the live versions of Heaven, Once in a Lifetime and This Must Be the Place. It's too bad afterward they became quite commercial.

Never listened to industrial metal besides Mushroomhead. They're decent enough, though nothing that great.

I think a lot of people here will like this band: http://www.myspace.com/hahatonka

Saw them open for Rocky Votolato. Not really my thing but the people here who don't mind stuff with a heavy country element probably will like them.

Has anyone ever heard of "Back to the River, Back to the Forest"? They're a local band here in the Detroit area and have played a few gigs, and according to their myspace page, they've got fans in California. Also, the brother of the lead wsinger is one of my friends.

A live version of "Starhip Troopers" by the Progressive Rock band "Yes"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Jhk5MEugJY

My church (the Catholic one) says that heaven goes on forever, but in this case, it only lasts between 5:43 and 10:08

Highly (as in by me) recommended.
