Slightly bizarre. They're not any more distorted than the next band & generally lack heaviness. They do sound somewhat like a sped-up Black Sabbath, I suppose. The categorization has definite problems, though, like listing Necrophiliac as death metal.

Self-indulgent pretentious classic rock vs. fast-paced in-you-face punk rock?

I generally prefer the former since I regard greater technicality as a positive attribute for music. My issue is that the term "classic rock" is very vague & obfuscates what exactly you mean, though qualifying it with pretentious immediately makes me think of concept albums & progressive rock.

I'm listening to Close To The Edge now. I am not really a connoisseur of progressive rock, though I must say that I really like this album.

Hey, I live in Colorado Springs Tongue

I like country too. Didn't know that it was big in Colorado, though. Tongue

That is a lot of lyrics. Just looking at them I'd guess the song must be 12 minutes long. Tongue

About 4:40. Extended instrumental parts are so not electropunk.

Umm...not really my cup of tea.

The horror! Have you heard Europe Endless by Kraftwerk??? Tis beautiful!

No, but I'm listening to Halleluhwah by Can. Sounds like Chameleon by Herbie Hancock, actually.

Eh, beyond Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, and the occasional Cluster, I haven't heard the genre. I'm biased towards the extreme electroni portion, but it is funky, so I can dig it Tongue.

I don't really listen to electronic music, unless you qualify musique concrète as such. Even then, it's hardly anything.

Finally got around to giving Death Magnetic a fair chance. Not bad actually, though James Hetfield's vocals just aren't what they used to be. I could also do without the ballads, though I think Kill 'Em All was the only Metallica album to genuinely not have any.

The Devil Wears Prada's new album Dead Throne is set to be released on September 13th, (the day before my birthday Cheesy) and from what I've read (and also from what I've heard from the tracks they've released early) the album is going to be heavy and Mike Hranica says it will be their "best written album to date". I'm excited!

So they've finally gotten rid of the unlistenable whining vocals? Tongue

PiT never struck me as the type to ever listen to Christian metalcore.

I was shown the band by a friend. Suffice it to say, I did not find it to be a pleasant experience.

Mastodon's new album The Hunter is coming out, and hey say it's going to be stripped down and heavier! Anyone else excited for Brent Hinds nd Troy Sanders great vocals?

Yeah! Smiley I heard a preview of one of the songs. It sounded kind of like Blood Mountain, but sludgier. I liked Crack The Skye, but I thought it was kind of light. As such, I am pretty excited about this new album.

Yeah, you're probably right about it sounding like Leviathan. Blood Mountain has higher-pitched melodies in general.

From Crack The Skye, I liked The Czar, though it was rather repetitive for an 11-minute song. The Last Baron was good, but really needed to be heavier. The whole album sounded like they were trying to do Dark Side Of The Moon, which really isn't their style.

Top 5:
1. Deep Purple
2. Led Zeppelin
3. AC/DC
4. Metallica
5. Black Sabbath
and others. Anybody with same interests?

All of those great bands. Though I don't actually listen to AC/DC much anymore.

I also like Scorpions, Pink Floyd, Megadeth, Motorhead and Judas Priest.
"Judas Priest Conservative" sound pretty awesome, isn't it?

     Yeah it does! Smiley

In fact, I'm wearing a Rust In Peace t-shirt now. While Megadeth might be thrash metal, I notice that they are very popular with fans of hard rock/traditional heavy metal. I wonder if Dave Mustaine's semi-operatic vocals & long instrumental passages have something to do with it. Tongue

I heard Bad Moon Rising on the radio yesterday and began to cry... the song was playing in the car as I came back from my last tour in Vietnam and my wife and I drove home...

Ooh, great song. I'd say Green River is my second favorite album by CCR, after Cosmo's Factory.
