Because the lead is large enough that a "real" conservative would still be leading.

Fiscally, he is a "real" conservative, and instead of being a former congressman, or attorney general, he is a successful businessman which certainly gives him a little bit more credibility when talking about solutions for Michigan's economy. Considering Michigan's current situation, I don't think voters will care much that his social views are more moderate that the others.

I haven't been following the race all that closely, but wasn't Bouchard the "real" conservative on fiscal issues?

Georges Marchais looks like he could be Richard Nixon's even softer brother.

He's hinted that he's somewhat almost kind of vaguely maybe not very anti-abortion at all, so of course!

In terms of social beliefs, he's almost ignorably more moderate than the rest of the candidates were. Other than that, he's just as much a conservative as all the others.

I pretty much wrote this one off even before Snyder won the nomination.

Being more socially moderate in the current GOP isn't hard given that 99% of candidates are staunchly socially conservative.
