Keep in mind, that despite having grown up in NC, I don't really come across as the stereotypical southerner.

I would hold my own in Research Triangle, and the black vote (of course), but may struggle elsewhere. 40% perhaps...

Obama won NC and he was a black Chicago liberal. You can win there as well, especially once North Carolina becomes even more diverse and cosmopolitan in the future.
