How long before the Democrats sack this guy?  Being a hack and now a failure, the Democrats must throw him overboard.

I like him and I put the blame on Bob Shrum but I'm sure McCaulife will resign in the next week and maybe Carville will replace him.

I would love to see Donna Brazile, Joe Trippi, or Howard Dean run the party.

Donna Brazile is the only one who can squeeze the votes out of every single county.  Shed be good but honestly its not the campaign managers, its the liberalism.  The party is just too liberal for this country.  The left in this country cannot win unless they move to the joe lieberman/bill clinton/evan bayh center.  That was proved by this election and how it was decided on moral issues.

Terry had already indicated that he would be leaving the position following this election.  If he wasn't, I'm sure the DNC powers that be would ask him to leave.

Terry McAuliffe always struck me on TV as being something akin to a 19th century travelling carnival snake oil salesman.

Even when what he said seemed reasonable and likely to actually be the truth I always felt he was lying to me.

Just a little to "used car salesman" sleazy for my tastes.

Gilespie over at the RNC is not great, but he at least seems to be a sincire spinner.

McAuliffe stuck his neck out in making a lot of questionable personal attacks against the president.  I think that turned off a lot of swing voters.

He got his nose bloodied by Jeb Bush in Florida 2 years ago, but apparently didn't learn from that.

That whole crowd surrounding the Democrats - Terry McAuliffe, George Soros, Michael Moore, Al Sharpton, the Hollywood crowd, etc. - is a big turnoff to swing voters.  Then of course, there were blatant attempts by the "impartial" media to fabricate and distort stories to harm the president.  The media has now gone from reporting the news in a biased manner to deliberately making up and distorting information in order to influence elections.  And liberals have the nads to complain about Fox News.

Even if I were not crazy about Bush, I would never want to hand a victory to that awful group of people.  Their support for Kerry alone would have kept me from voting for him.

McAuliffe is a major turn-off to a lot of people, myself included. It's fine to have a partisan as your chairperson, and I'd probably never endorse the chairperson of the Democratic party - granted, but you have to be able to see and recognize reality. Be a hack and lead the party, fine, but know reality when it's staring you in the face.

But there's a more fundamental problem than selecting someone who knows what's going on to lead the party for the Dems. They are almost going to be forced to move to the right after this election cycle - I don't see that they have a choice, on mainly cultural issues, but probably also economics. Universal health care coverage sounds good, but people who don't want their taxes raised will not vote for someone who is for it. The Democrats will probably select someone right of McAuliffe, maybe far right of him. We'll see.

The Dems don't necessarily need to move to the right...for the time being, they need to wait it out and see how the next two years shape up.  It is quite possible that unresolved deficits and a civil war in Iraq could create a very bad year for Republicans in 2006 without the Democrats doing anything.  In this case, they should stick to their principles like the GOP did in 1994.

Maybe McAweful should go to DU and be a paid moderator on that crapweasel site.  No, that won't work because they are blaming him for the big loss 2004.

Carville would be fun, but he wouldn't want it, he apparently found it very frustrating working with Kerry and the non-Clintonistas within the Kerry/Edwards campaign team… he’ll probably go back to his political consultancy, but will probably do some pro-boneo work for the Democrats as he always has, and I’d expect him to be back again for 2008.

One of the guys from the old Clinton team might be an idea (not Bowles)… but who?

Now that would be cool Smiley …just can’t see him as the touchy-felt type but he’d certainly be a useful person for the Dems to consult and try and recast them on the social issues side of things ditto Philp Gould will no doubt be Washington bound this Christmas and after the general election next year I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues working with the likes of Greenberg and Carville within the DNC.

Terry McAuliffe should have been ousted after the 2002 election. Why he was kept around is anybody?s guess.
