He's probably perceived as just another establishment Democrat, though, as he didn't do much to differentiate from them on major legislation (except on financial reform, which I don't think will help him even though his reasoning may resonate with some).

Feingold has always run in tough races.  Why should an anti-incumbent year be any different?  If anything, his reelection effort should be tougher.
