If a broadcast network made available for purchase unedited DVDs of their election night coverage from 1952-2008 and you could only buy one, Which year would you get?

I vote for 1976. It was close and It'd be interesting to see an election where the Democrat wins in the south and the Republican wins in New England.

I love watching old election night vids, but 2000 is definatley the most interesting, and the one I picked. Also, they had TV results from 1948, so it would be interesting to watch Truman upset Dewey.

Which Election Night DVD would you buy?

…2008, on Blu-ray. (MSNBC didn't have a high-definition feed at the time; I'd settle for them on DVD.)

Other than the year indicated above, my answer is all of the years on the list plus 1948.

1960, as it would have been interesting to see the comparisons between how the media covered it and how it covered 2000 and 2004 (all very close elections).

I would buy all of them if they were reasonable prices...though I am not a fan of the older election night coverage like the 1952-1960 choices. I am always disappointed in the way that [YouTube] shows only parts of election night...if these videos showed the start to conclusion...I would think that it was heaven on earth.

Midterms? Again, any of them for reasonable prices but 1994 is the first that comes to mind.

…People's collections. NBC had at MSNBC.com some past election-night moments [I think it was in a section labled Turning Point], and I understand your apparent interest in wanting more. I found 1972 intriguing, especially in then-Sen. George McGovern (D-South Dakota) not being much of a challenge to President Richard Nixon (R-California) — in the year of Watergate! — and how fast and early NBC News was able to determine the trajectory of a landslide re-election for Nixon.

This is gold for a few elections. I wish it had more on the primaries for each of these campaigns, but it is very interesting.

I'd like to see 1968.

The '94 Midterms would also be nice to see.

He's a Republican. He wants to see Ronnie win 49 states. I don't blame him. I'd like to see 1964 and Watch LBJ win 44 states

Eh, it's not that. I actually mis-understood his post. I thought he was saying that '84 was a midterm year. Tongue

Anyway, sorry, Derek.

1964 and 1972. I could show them as educational videos on what happens when you don't tow the establishment line in this oligarchy.

That would be the shortest DVD ever.

I could imagine it "(First projections) And this just in, the President has carried every state other than Minnesota and DC."

Funny how he didn't mention anything about Jesse Jackson's 1988 US Primary campaign............

I'd also be willing to buy 1968 and 1976, just to see the suspense. The ones I'd least be willing to buy are 2000, 2004, 1984, 1988, and 1980 in that order.

I don't like watching Republicans win anymore then you do. But 1980 would be interesting since everyone thought it would be close and then Carter got blown out.

Is there a place to buy these dvds?

Sadly not that I know of.

I guess you're right about 1980. Still, 1980 isn't my most hated election result. It's just in the top 5. And I really don't have a problem seeing moderate Republicans win (Ike, Nixon). I just really don't enjoy seeing conservative Republicans win.

I bought 1968 and 1972 off of ioffer.com. They also have a few other ones on the site too.

But, for the question i would like to see all of them, especially 1976, 1996, and 2000.

How come 1948 isn't an option in this poll? If there is one for that year (not sure if there is since I don't know if they broadcast the results on TV yet or not), I'd love to see it. Imagine all the reporters thinking Dewey will win only to see Truman pull off a stunning upset.

That site is a great idea...I am already looking into getting some for christmas.

Do it, but make sure the quality is good first. Most are either from the Vanderbilt Archives or through personal recordings.
