North Korea (reunite with South Korea)
Croatia (split between Serbia and Slovenia)
Israel (change into a non-nationalist Jewish/Arab state of Palestine combined with Gaza and the West Bank)
Vatican City (absorb into Italy*)
Liechtenstein (absorb into Switzerland)

*Ideally Italy would also just become a territory of San Marino as well.

North Korea,
Cuba,
Iran,
Venezuela
Laos

The injustices of communism still need to be eliminated; Plus Iran, that would just make life a little easier for our President.

I would have said China, but, well the USA would simply collapse. And Vietnam, well that is hardly communist anymore. .

That is, their governments anyway.

If you mean the country geo-politically

North Korea reunited with South Korea
China absorbed by Taiwan

and thats really about it.

China

The big ones need to be broken up. Tongue Split each of them into at least three separate countries.

I also agree on North Korea. Hell, let's get rid of Saudi Arabia while we're at it.

None of the above. I'm more mature than gloating at the immature thought of wiping countries off the map, even though I'm far from the top defender of national sovereignty.

You think the world is better off with North Korea existing than a united Korea?

And I'm not talking about government change. There's no reason to eliminate the states of Cuba and Iran. You might prefer they have a different government of course, but that's completely different.

Perfect list old buddy, perfect list.

However I would also like to get rid of them if by 'get rid off' we meant causing them to disappear from reality, or something like that, not just 'broken up'.

many countries need to be split up, a top that list is China, India and the U.S. I also agree that North Korea should be merged with South Korea. But that doesn't even scratch the surface of what I would do.

Or maybe go down an alternate route and get rid of all the EU countries by merging them into a United States of Europe?

Pigs will fly sooner than any of that happening, except the Korea one, which will be painful for the entire region.

Plenty of African countries may theoretically be better off by redrawing the boundaries, though.

Redrawing the map of Africa would be high on my list as well.

My point still stands. Ethnic nationalism is way too strong for China to peacefully split up. Civic nationalism is equally way too strong for the US to split up. Hindu identity is also way too strong for India to split up.

Redrawing Africa will almost certainly cause one, two, or many Rwandas (which itself is a homogeneous country which theoretically shouldn't see ethnic violence), as millions of people will be uprooted and forced out.

What do you propose happen to the DR of Congo, Burma, Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia? Remember we are not talking about simply changing their governments.

Botswanans would, probably, be willing to fight a war to prevent Zimbabwe being "given" to them Smiley) Botswana is that African rarity: essencially an ethnic nation-state. BTW, the only minority they really have (the San) they've been less than exemplary about. Unless I am badly mistaken, a joint Botswana-Zimbabwe would be Shona and Ndebele dominated. Either the Tswana would be marginalized, or it would be a state where a small minority dominates the majority. A joint Zimtswana is really a Zimbabwe w/ and appendix.

Joint Iran-Iraq would, essencially, be an Iran w/ extra tensions. Do you really want that?

Etc., etc.

Sunni majority provinces in Iraq and Saudi Arabia (without the Eastern province) and giving it to Iraq and have a Hashemite King and not a Nejdi one from Al-Saud. This would include present-day Jordan and Qatar.

Bahrain - cede to Iraq.

North Korea - by merger with South Korea.

PRC by having RoC becoming sole legitimate government of all of China.

I would cede land from Shia heavy Southern Lebanon and Sunni-heavy Northern Lebanon to Syria, leaving a Christian Lebanon.

These European countries or city-states could be absorbed into the larger country that surrounds them

It's hard to decide on most of the top 5, but clearly North Korea should become part of South Korea.
I assume that Turkish Cyprus doesn't count as a country?
Liechtenstein and the Vatican seem useless.
