I REALLY enjoyed this timeline, but am disappointed that Palin isn't running. I just think a version with her would be more interesting. Any chance you'll consider giving her a surprise late entry? (it wouldn't be far from reality given her grassroots support and potential to raise lots of money, fast)

Two weeks before Iowa is a little late with credible conservatives in the race. However Palin is not off of the stage or out of the spotlight Wink

January Part I
Governor Jan Brewer endorses Newt Gingrich in Arizona
We need border security. This is not just about illegal immigrants and jobs, this is about criminals and national security. We cannot be safe if we cannot control our own borders and know who is in our country. Newt is the man to complete this mission.

T. Boone Pickens endorses Mitch Daniels. You all know my concern, clean energy independence and I think our man Mitch is going to get us there.

Erick Erickson tours Iowa with Mitch Daniels. Mitch is the man that’s going to get the job done and move us back on a fiscally conservative road where personal liberties and freedoms come before government.

On “Sarah”, Sarah Palin endorses Newt Gingrich. Newt is the guy with conservative values that will bring our nation back. He’s not afraid to call it like it is, he’s not afraid to stand up to big government and socialism and fight for the little guy out there wanting to make an honest living. Newt is America’s guy.

Laura Bush and George H. W. Bush endorse Mitch Daniels in Iowa.

Iowa Results
Newt Gingrich 30%
Mitch Daniels 20%
Mitt Romney 18%
Tim Pawlenty 11%
George Pataki 6%
Jim DeMint 6%
Gary Johnson 4%
Olympia Snowe 4%
Rick Santorum 2%

The fight for New Hampshire may very well decide which moderate will lead the faction banner in the primary. There is expected to be a close fight between Romney, Pataki and Snowe. It is also rumored that if Pawlenty does not place in the top 3, he will drop out.

New Hampshire Results
George Pataki 26%
Mitt Romney 25%
Olympia Snowe 15%
Newt Gingrich 11%
Tim Pawlenty 9%
Mitch Daniels 6%
Gary Johnson 6%
Rick Santorum 1%
Jim DeMint  1%

Delegate Count
Gingrich 37
Pataki 19
Romney 5
Daniels 2

I'm surprised George H.W. Bush endorsed Daniels over Romney, who he has maintained a steady friendship with. Nevertheless, good timeline! I sense a Gingrich victory.

January Part II
Nikki Haley surprises pundits and endorses Mitt Romney over front-runner Newt Gingrich after losing a critical state, New Hampshire. With the loss in New Hampshire, it is unlikely Romney can pull off a win in both Nevada and South Carolina, it will be interesting to see where he chooses to spend his time.

Olympia Snowe makes a last stand in Nevada. Staffers say they expect a victory and will work hard to make sure it happens.

Jim DeMint is expected to drop out if he doesn’t win his home state of South Carolina. DeMint did poorly in Iowa, an early state that needed him to place on the higher end of the list to continue a credible campaign.

South Carolina Results
Gingrich 26%
DeMint 25%
Romney 17%
Daniels 12%
Pawlenty 7%
Pataki 6%
Santorum 3%
Johnson 2%
Snowe 2%

Nevada Results
Romney 26%
Pataki 22%
Snowe 15%
Daniels 14%
Gingrich 8%
Johnson 6%
Pawlenty 4%
DeMint 3%
Santorum 1%

Tim Pawlenty drops out of the race and endorses Mitch Daniels. Mitch is our man. He’s the guy that’s going to lead the Republican banner in November and win us back the White House!

Delegate Count
Gingrich 77 (Green)
Romney 31 (Red)

Good timeline but Gingrich is seriously getting Republican support? The man can't keep his house in order. Also why would Pataki win over Romney in New Hampshire? Still hoping Mitt pulls of a victory.

Pataki surfaced as a promising moderate with a lot more experience. Remember Romney isn't that much loved in NH, he did lose to mcCain.

I see well I still hope he wins in the end. The other candidates don't seem very promising/

Early February
Jim DeMint withdraws from the race in Florida. Friends, we did not make it to the White House, but we did make a conservative impact and we will not give up the movement. No more than ever do we need you to volunteer, to donate and support conservative candidates to take back our country. I want to introduce to you the next President of the Untied States, Newt Gingrich!

Olympia Snowe holds a press conference saying she is committed to staying in the race until the end.

He has a conservative record, I’ve worked with him in Washington and I know he’ll bring around conservative change to our great nation.

Late February
Unemployment is at 9.1% and the DOW has dropped to 9,982. Violence continues to rise in Iraq and Afghanistan as the Taliban move to retake Afghanistan and Iraqis are split on what the central and regional governments of Iraq should control. The national debt now takes up 79% of the nation’s GDP and China just announced they will not lend anymore money to America. Obama’s approval rating has slipped down to 39%. In a televised announcement to the nation, President Obama announces he will not in fact seek a second term and points to his successor as Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.

I am humbled at the President’s choice to be the democratic nominee. President Obama has had a very difficult task, and it’s not over yet. He has accomplished a lot and there’s a long road ahead, and this time, we’re going to shatter that ceiling.

Dennis Kucinich was the only other one to jump into the race though he is expected to gain very if any delegates and win no states. There is speculation that Evan Bayh will run, however the announcement after the primaries has begun gives the clear upper hand to Clinton who will have the only ready to go team in the field with Super Tuesday next week.

Despite criticism for splitting the moderate field with Pataki, Mitt Romney announced he will stay in the race and fight for victory and stated Super Tuesday was more like “Southern Tuesday” and did not represent the entire nation. The next slate of primaries are expected to be potential gains for Romney, if he can sweep them then he will be back on track to victory and could also push out Pataki if he performs poorly enough. Romney would have to win the swing states of Washington, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Missouri for a landslide to make up for Super Tuesday losses.

Daniels is also likely to drop out if he cannot win in both Kansas and Missouri.

Evan Bayh announces he will not run for President, ending any credible threat to Clinton. Joe Biden also endorsed Clinton saying she is right for the nation and is confident she will win. There has been speculation on what Biden was offered to hand over the nomination to Clinton even though he is Vice President. Some speculation includes a possible affair, continuing to be Vice President or the facts that Biden isn’t electable.

If he did that then there would much more likely be a primary that would go to the convention. And face it, Biden would be destroyed with a mouth like that. Clinton shows the potential to bring back better economic days.

With a still terrible economy, debt so high, violence mounting in the middle east and all of Obama's big government policies have failed to be welcomed by the nation, he would have a very hard time being re-elected and this way still has the potential to make a comeback later
