Any reason for this, and surely, any surge for the Greens would hurt Alexi, right? :/

I want to see them win somehow. It's not entirely impossible, and would be completely priceless.

This is a pox on both your houses result. It looks much like the 2006 Gov race when both major party candidates appeared damaged to the voters. The Greens ended up with 10%, though few voters knew anything about Whitney. If both Alexi and Kirk remain tarnished through the fall, history may repeat for the Greens.

There's also some wealthy businessman about to enter the race as an independent. If he turns out to be legitimate he'll probably take most of the protest vote.

At this point--if the campaign continues for the US Senate seat as it has--I see the Greens as having no difficulty in passing the 5% threshold they need to maintain their ballot position.

I've read he's a teabagger, so he'll hurt Kirk.

I'd be willing to bet that there is a huge spike of traffic over at LeAlan Jones' website since this polls results were published.

It's basically impossible but it would be hilarious and obviously the best possible result.

Did anyone else notice that that the guy looks like a Terrance Howard clone?

The Green Party candidate is indeed the least bad of these horrific choices, so this comes as no surprise. What a terrible race, but I guess it's typical for Illinois.

Aye, you be right.

“If I get my name on the ballot, Mark Kirk is going to go as far right as he can to get the conservative vote,” predicts Niecestro

Unfortunately, we don't seem to have a fascist party candidate in Illinois yet that you would feel comfortable supporting.

Best part of that poll?

10% believe you!  That's about the same amount that think Obama was born in Kenya, so good luck with that Mark.

True, but at least you're happy with the choices put before you. Kirk and Giannoulias, truly admirable statesmen.

Giannoulias is a good man. He has my total support. He is far superior to the vile trash that is Kirk. Sarah Palin is a more respectable person than Kirk is.

Lunar's love affair for Giannoulias continues.  He's always had a thing for bad boys.

Anyway, who really thinks Kirk's "lies" are going to matter after this summer when Blago goes on trial and we find out all the skeletons in Giannoulias' closet?

Don't get your hopes up. The Democrat will win this one, even if they have to dig up the necessary votes (literally).

With that conservative independent guy running, we could see a Texas 2006-style result. When's the last time a Senator won with less than 40% of the vote? James Buckley?
