Normally I defend politicians getting harassed by annoying people, but I'm not seeing a way that I could side with Etheridge here.  Now, the video is edited, so I'd like to see the whole thing before making a final decision, but from that video, he really looks like he overreacted - especially the neck grab - that just looked BAD.

I've gotta say that while, academically, I think that the Congressman's reaction was, obviously, grossly inappropriate, I'll admit to finding some comedy value in one of those annoyingly smug Republicans (specifically, the ones who ambush interview Democrats for LIBERTY AND FREEDOM) getting throttled.

Re-elect this hilarious FF.

I think the Democrats are in an echo chamber and have become so anti-Teaparty that such cynicism by Democrats would produce such a reaction.

I really think he is a boozer, and does this when he is bombed. He is a mean drunk is my little operative theory. I have never understood mean drunks. I am quite lovable myself when I am bombed. Smiley

Pity this second earlier incident is not on tape as well. That should finish him off if it were.

I believe it.

However, the DC consensus is that Eheridge's district doesn't really care.  The biggest protest rally in front of his office was 6 people.

It'll make for some damaging TV ads, if his opponent can get any money.

I wouldn't be reliant on the DC consensus to formulate an opinion. This is a diverse district. Its City, its suburbs, and its rural areas. Etheridge used to win uniformly across the whole district and by wide margins. To base an assumption about the district not caring off of having so few apear at his campaign office seems a bit hasty. This incident will provide the opening for Ellmers to take advantage of his votes as well as this incident which she couldn't do before. We need to see how much money she raised from this and how good she will be at exploiting this.

Hey man, I was very particular to note that it was the DC consensus.  It is important to remember that sometimes these things can become self-fulfilling prophecies, where national money goes or doesn't go to whatever the consensus is.

But yeah, I just regurgitate insider thinking, I don't analyze it.  Sheesh, who do you think I am?  A critical thinker?  Puh-lease, go find Bill Nye the Science Guy or something, because that ain't me honeybuns.

Ellmers raised only $116k in Q2 and has $42k on hand. Etheridge has $1.2m in the bank.

This race is over.
